Was out hiking and enjoying a nice fire late day/evening with TheZenful1 and we spotted this guy in a tree crevice.
Is this a Wolf Spider? I had the flash setting too high and it washed out the colors but he had distinct gold and black bands on all of his legs.

BTW, Wait until you see TheZenful1's survival kit! He's been doing his homework for sure here!

It looks like a live spider, which is never good..... Kill that nasty hairy SOB!!!

Looks like a wolf spider to me. The ones we have down here don't have quite the striped legs like that one. They are very large, very fast, and bite hard. Please tell me you stomped the life out of that eight-legged devilry?

x2 on wolf spider. Id rather lay in a bed of rattlesnakes than have a spider anywhere near me. Id knock women and children down getting away from a dang spider.

What's all the hate for spiders about? Spiders eat the insects I really hate to deal with. I've never had a bad experience with a spider and never intentionally killed one. Up north, brown recluses are the only ones we really have to worry about, and they prefer to leave you alone. Live and let live.

LOL....You took the words out of my mouth ! :D:thumbup:

I kill them to assert my dominance :D

Jk...

I've been bit by spiders. And by bit, I mean by banana spiders. If you don't know what that's like, take a pair of toenail cutters -- the big ones that look like vise grips -- dig them into some skin and snip. It hurts like that.

I've woke up and had them hovering about 4 inches from my face.

I've had them (wolf spiders) jump on me from my towel rack getting out of the shower.

AND I STILL WANT THEM AROUND

Good God, the bugs we have down here. . .I'll RELOCATE spiders just to have them on the property to get rid of the bugs. Them and tree frogs, bull frogs, etc. Even got some geckos running around here.

I particularly like wolf spiders since they don't weave webs.

You disappoint me. When I first saw that picture of the fire I thought that's how you'd disposed of the little pest. A shoe would've worked wonders, too.

He was taking up residence is standing dead timber. I gave him a quick photo shoot and left him be.
Now if he had crawled on me, he might have met his maker pretty quick!
I don't like creep crawlies on my person!

I consider any hairy spider that's bigger than a little spider and smaller than a big one to be a Wolf Spider. :D

I typically don't kill spiders unless I have to. If I find one in the house, I'll scoop it up and take it outside. Not that I'm a huge lover of spiders. If I find one on me, fight or flight is taking over. :D

seems like a wolf to me too. I wasn't sure because they dont really look like that around here but after doing a yahoo image search it seems that there are many different subspecies/forms. What I don't get is a all the hate for spiders the stuff they usually kill are much, much more dangerous. Compare how many people die from spiderbites and howmany die from: malaria, dengue, yellow fevers ect... and thats just mosquitos. in the end spiders hurt/kill very few insects as a MAJOR vector of many diseases literally kill millions
I personally like spiders and have studied, held even kept a few as pets since a was a very small child. never been hurt by them other then a bit or two which were about a par with horseflies
JMO :)
