First of all I loved the Spider Monkey from the first day I got it. Super clean, beautiful fit and finish. Reasonable price. Then I see GoingGear copper version and I get a second one with copper scales.

WOW

Glad I bought this one. In case in one cares the watch is a UTS 1000. German watch of very hide quality.

Didn't even know that copper edition existed. Are there any other versions of the Spider Monkey out there besides the standard carbon fiber and this one? I've carried my regular Spider Monkey almost every day off-duty since I got it last year. I enjoy it and more specifically, I love the 3.25" blade length. More blades need to be offered in that size. We definitely have differing views on "reasonable price" though. First and only knife that I've bought over the ~$100 range.

I was tempted by the copper version; but I struggle to warm up to smaller modern folders. If I hadn't gotten hit with some expensive home repair bills, I probably would have grabbed one just to have.

How does the weight compare between the 2 knives? I've been debating on picking one or the other up.

The Spider Monkey is an awesome knife. I love that Copper version. Could you post some more pics of it?

I have a copper handled Bad Monkey...bad ass, but weighs a ton...

I had read all of the hype, and just had to buy one to check it out.
It is a very nice folder; very smooth, solid lockup @ 35% on the tang. My model has a PVD black blade and is very attractive.
The knife is excellent for EDC with a good flat-ground 0.130" S35VN blade-steel for good slicing ability.
Weight of this folder is 3.2 ounces, which makes for a very light folder in your pocket.

Love my spider monkey, pretty damn close to the perfect EDC for me. The copper version looks pretty cool, but I would be concerned with the weight.

BTW Mr Blue we are practically neighbors

The copper version looks great. But I think the weight would be increased too much for some slacks, and the copper will tarnish, which is good or bad, depending on how you like it. My "standard" Spider Monkey is my EDC when in jeans and going clipless.

I think I might just have to add a Southern Grind knife to my collection, at some point.

Have not seen one with patina yet. I know for example people with bronze case watches actually take steps to get patina to their watch as it looks really neat. I am wondering if anyone has tried it with the copper?

Yeah that is a gorgeous Spider Monkey! I too am interested in how to care for the copper and what it will look like over time. Do you have to clean it regularly to keep the varnish off? It looks good shiny or dull in the pics on their site.

Seems funny to read that post from 3 yrs ago, now that this thread has been dragged up out of the archives (looking at you, R RWBNavy )
I bought the copper spider monkey - a few months after I made that post. I later bought one in carbon fiber, with green anodized liners, for work carry (the only time weight really matters to me)... and I may or may not have jumped for one of the limited run in M4.

Here's the thread i posted about the copper one -

I edited out the IMG coding a few months after posting (the thread had pretty much run its course); but the links should still work.
