So I did this one in more subdued colors........

I sure wish I was a better photographer!!! I suck at taking pics. The entire blade is done in OD, woodland tan and snow gray.

jforsbush, how good are you at moose designs? Just askin. We're getting closer by the day. Gonna baton some wood and have a good go this weekend camping, so it might be sooner than later. May wanna start on that moose thing, :D. Moose

I get these from a mix of free hand and stencils.

Moose....I will track down a moose stencil and practice some free hand.....animals are tough!!! More than likely I will need to stencil the main part of the animal but I can put a twist on it when need be. I will get to looking for a moose stencil.....oh.....what blade are you wanting this on....for size comparison.

oddly enough, I bought a sticker to put on my car today that looks very similar to this.

maybe that would work.

That would work if I could make my own stencils. Thanks for putting that out there.

Moose....if you find one that you like let me know where it is or you can get it and send it to me and I will send it back. Turns out that there are not a lot of Moose stencils out there that are small enough to put on a neck knife!!

check scrapbooking supply places like Michaels or Hobby Lobby for animal punches or small foam "stencils" in animal or dinosaur shapes.

I like the bottom one.......the size is perfect for a neck knife. The first one looks pretty nice but it would have to be reduced. I wish I knew how or had the proper stuff to make stencils!!!! I will keep looking for ya.

Oh part of the process is to blast off the old material with 120 grit oxide so don't worry about stripping yourself. All you have to do is send me the blade and I got the rest. (that is of course if you find a stencil that you like that you want to send)

Both of those were stencils. You can get them in any size according to the website. I liked the bottom one as well. Oh, and don't go to any great lengths for the stencil, if you can get it easy, fine, if not, well, you got skulls :D. Moose

Would you ever post a tutorial "how to apply duracoat", just the basics. I would like to duracoat my AR lower in OD. You are talented & do such a great job, would you share your skills ?

I always thought these knives were great right out of the box, but custom paint is fantastic. If it's as durable as the original coating I couldn't imagine there's anyone that wouldn't want one done up like that.

Moose.....send me the links to the web sites for both to my personal email address.

Onado2000....I have no problem sharing my process. Give me some time to type it up....I have a few projects I am working on now that require my time.

Sonecold......it took me a little over a hour from start to finish.......

Spraay.......any coating that I have tired is not as durrable as the orignal factory finish. That stuff is as tough as nails. Duracoat holds up well and is available is a ton of colors so that is why I have been doing it. Just a way to make your knife yours.....I am going to be getting some Cerekote in the future and try that out. I just need to get the money together for it.....that stuff is not cheep.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words....I am getting better and better with each pattern I do.....it takes time to learn how to shadow, add depth ect. I have the solid color stuff down but the patterns and what not are going to take some practice and time.

jforbush, thank you, Im looking forward to your tutorial post. I have also been curious about Cerekote, funny that you mentioned it!;) Let us know how that comes out. IMO some people have talent & skill for these projects but I know I'm not one of 'em.
