Not sure but why don't you try this question over on the Knife Laws forum. I think you will get better results there. Good luck.

In new york you will be fine as long as you are not in New york city. In new york city the blade must be under 2 inches i think?

Are you coming to new york for a visit?

yes it is ok to carry in NYS. When I first went into the academy, that was the first thing i looked for when we received our law books. What is deemed an illegal length is at the discretion of the LEO at hand.

NYC Admin code states must be under 4". NYS any size not a switchblade or gravity knife (PL 265).....Gravity knife is the tricky one as any folder that can be flicked is a gravity knife, but this is normally not an issue......

Proguide how do you feel the lenght issue is a LEO discretion? Function ( as in gravity knife) and double edge yes, lenght outside of NYC, not that I am aware of. There is no lenght in the NYS PL noted and only one case law sited on lenght. Of course "dangerous knife" is a bit of a caught all.....That is as per NYCPD Academy, just curiuos how other departments view it......

Probably not legal..but as long as you're not commiting a crime, I don't think the typical LEO will give you too much trouble

That's it. New York City can get you for a 4" blade -- it must be under 4" (not 2").

It's a good idea to tighten the pivot of a folder so it doesn't flick out under centrifugal force, which NYC has been using as an augmented definition of "gravity knife".

City of Yonkers also I believe has the same 4" blade rule as New York City

gotta watch those local laws in states where at first the carry looks OK

Thanks for all the great information.
I think I get It:
I can carry the knife in the state NOT in the city and I a,m not really alowed to carry it but any fair Peace officer would not get on my case about the knife Ja?
Oh yea I am not American citizen!!!!! That might be a problem Ja?

If someone did question you about it, I would think they would be even nicer to you for not being an American.

For the most part, you should be fine. If something bad did happen, you would ultimately still be fine. Just don't pull it out unless you have to use it...and if something less "bad looking" is nearby, use that instead (scissors, etc.).

The laws are mostly used against criminals who have already commited worse crimes.

You should be fine with it pretty much everywhere just as long as your not waving it around like the lunatic that we all know you are.;)

Plus the military isn't that scary looking of a knife anyways so it should be sheeple friendly as well.

Thanks

I think I will get it. My holyday knife that I can not bring back to Denmark:grumpy: No one hand operated knives in my country. I also have my SAK and Busse Satin Jack LE :D :D

Tom19176, "Dangerous knife" is what I'm talking about. If someone has a 7 inch kitchen knife in his back pack and he won't make eye contact and can't finish a sentence without changing the subject, although not technically illegal to carry, it would raise my eyebrow. It depends on the initial charge for me. If it is someone who has 83 bags of crack and $1,600 on him (last month) than yeah I'm going to take it. It depends on the situation I guess.

500jeffery, If it were me, I wouldn't leave home without it. The millie is a great user.
