Had dinner with a friend and his wife tonight. He showed me a knife he has had for quite a few years. It's a Spiderco with POLICE boldly inscribed on the approximately 4 inch blade. This folder has "Seki City Japan" at the fold on the blade. The steel is marked G-2. It is fully serrated. The body of the knife is fairly heavy. Nice looking knife.

I have found this knife on the web, but only with Blade Material: VG-10. It also says the knife style dates back to 1984.

Does anyone have any history of this knife with G-2 steel? Any idea of the value?

Thanks for look'in out...

I think the vintage would be early '90s. G2 may have been used on the model before then but I can't be positive.

The G-2 blade marking was added around '92, and it designates a blade made of GIN-1 steel. Before that Spyderco blades carried no steel markings at all, although in many cases the steel was the same. Then, sometime around '95, they began marking them GIN-1, so your friend's knife was manufactured during that time period.
