A few years ago I followed the lead of many on this forum and purchased a Benchmade 710D2. I carried the knife almost everyday for about a year and it really grew on me. I like big knives, and the 710 is a big knife done right. For a user knife, it has it all: Axis lock, D2 steel, G-10 handles, and skelotonized full steel liners. I decided to customize that knife last year and did so by making barrel spacers, polishing the G-10 (still don't remember how I did that), heavily filleted the scales, and buffed the liners and clip. It turned out really well and I have carried regularly since then.
I received my second Benchmade 710D2 earlier this week and decided to go a bit of a different route on this one. I sanded (400 grit on a belt sander) the liners, scales, and backspacer flush and finished the edges off with progressive grits until I was at Scotchbrite. I polished the cilp, pivot screw, and pivot bushing. I sanded down the areas of hidden jimping quite a bit and like the feel of the knife much better now. I like them both in their own way and plan on keeping and carrying them both.
