Started on this Spike Hawk this morning, for a member here. When it`s done it will have oak handles.
The specs are:
about 14" overall
about a 3 1/4" cutting edge
about 6" from edge to tip of spike
1/4" thick O1 steel

That's awesome. I see that as a perfect example of shape and proportion, nicely done!

Hi John -

Having handled that at the gathering, I have to say that it is a great little chopped - it is head-heavy (moreso than the DBH).

Someone is going to be very happy when that one is finished.

I like the bulb at the end of the handle too - that feature really works.

best regards -

The chopping ability on this one was huge, even though it did not have a handle yet. I would agree with Andy that this hawk handles chopping more efficiently than the DBH but they were designed with different goals in mind.

Can't wait! Glad to hear it's working out like I was hoping it would.

This has got to be my new favorite! It has been added to my line, hope to get more orders for it.

I'll name it Fárbjóðr, meaning "Destroyer" in Old Norse.
I don't think I can spell it out in the Elder Futhark viking runes here.

That is just down right Perererererty! I'm not really sure what the DBH stands for but, I am assuming that's the one Andy had with him at McKinley Woods, and you surely can't take away from that one! I thought that was just a down right awsome working tool for a little bit of anything! I was impressed with it! This one does look like it is going to be an awsome Hawk! I agree with outdoorsfan though, it's hard to compare these two, they were both bilt to do different jobs! It's kind of like comparing apples to oranges! As Usual, great job John! I know the owner of this one will surely be happy with it!

Looks like a small fire axe. A very freaking nice looking small fire axe.

john that is stunning brother. just what i have been waiting on honestly. could I get it with the spike about a half inch or 3/4 ths' inch longer? it looks great man

That would involve going to 7" stock instead of 6", and that makes it even pricier than it is now.
