I recently got a chance to introduce a young man to Blacksmithing.
A friend mentioned his Dad was aliling- we got to talking about his grand dad who passed when he was a boy. His Grandfather came through Ellis Island- lost his last name in the process - given a new "American" name and he knew very little about his heritage. He mentioned that the grandfather worked in the Phily shipyards and collected all sorts of tools. I offered to forge a hawk from a old ball peen if he could locate one in the stuff his Dad had inherited.
His son got a chance to do some of the initial forging- He will get it back this weekend - just in time for his first deer hunt. Hopefully he can bring it home with a nice deer for his Grandfather who isn't able to make it out.

Its nice to see people doing good things and helping others. That is some awesome work and that is definately one nice hawk!

Another good guy doing a good thing. My faith in humanity just moved a couple of notches in the right direction. That happens when I spend enough time around here. Thanks!
I'm going to bed before I read anything posted by skinnyjoe. :)

The 'hawk came out beautifully, and it has a story attached to it that surpasses anything you could walk into a store and buy. Good work on both ends!

Great deed, great hawk Brother. You have created a memory that he will cherish forever.

Very best regards

Robin

That's a really nice thing to see. I'll bet you enjoyed it just as much as he did. Beautiful work on the hawk, looks great.
