I would love input from experienced throwers on well built spikes, not the crap "ninja" stuff sold and seen so much but a solid $15-20 per weighty spike I can purchase in sets of 4-6

Flying Steel makes some really nice spikes. Well made, nicely heat treated and well reviewed.
Look them up, they're here on the forums.

I will thank you. I appreciate your help, I couldn't help but notice you are an Arizona man?

I love to throw them. They are a bit harder to stick in hard targets than knives but you throw better because they have to stick exactly point on. So overall throwing improves. Check out these heavy spikes I made from heavy deer stand nails. Grind the heads a bit so they are a bit smaller in diameter, slip some rubber tubing over them and a rubber washer to hold it in place. I put a bit of shoe goo on the shaft under the tubing. I use a belt sander to carefully shape the trilobite points. They resemble Roman arrow heads. Easy to make, fun to throw and cost about $3 each for material.
