I have progressed some on my spike cane gun. This has gotten to become an education as well as the usual offshoots into childhood adventures.

I have just about finished the valve for the cane. It should withstand pressure in excess of 10,000 PSI and the tubing that will be the barrel is rated at 10,000. Of course, I can't get air higher than 3,000PSI and I had to sign a waiver with the dive shop to get that.

It can also use CO2. CO2 is around 850 to 950 psi depending on the temperature. It is really nothing as a liquid and pressurizes in the tank when it becomes a gas.

Given the same pressure, the CO2 is slower than the nitrogen based air. This is because the molecules are larger in CO2 and you just can't get the same speed.

Oh.....the spike is finished for the cane also. I just need to make the cam that opens the valve when I turn the spike to unlock it.

Anyway...while playing with this and planning the big bore air gun, I remembered something I built years ago. It is a copy of something called the Airrow Stealth. It shoots shortened arrows. I didn't have the money for SCUBA tanks in those days and was using a ball valve for a trigger.

I was talking to one of the air gun geeks and he said, "Use a power Washer Valve"

HMMMMMMMM. I went out and bought one and it was rated for 4,5000 PSI. Happy days, 600 FPS arrow gun is on it's way.

So anyway......from a knife making standpoint, the spike is done. From the cane standpoint, it just needs the finished valve with a cam.

From the toy standpoint......The adventure continues.

From a project standpoint.....I also have a wheel lock and a Match lock gun/knife projects in various stages of completion.

Ain't life fun! :p

Oh yea, definately trouble.

I like the bigbore airgun a LOT. Is a muzzle blast quitener:) okey dokey with the goons. Nice .50 air rifle would be too much fun probably.

The one I looked at the design for had a picture with it of a deer he had killed with the thing. That's not news though. Louis and Clark had a 50 they took to hunt with because it was quieter.

Here's a picture of the Airrow Stealth (Arrow Gun) Cost about $2,500.00

Hey that picture could be the model for a nice bench gun at the National Muzzleloading Matches. :D I bet the primatives would just love it

I used to be a bad person Pete (Cartridge Shooter) If you go to this link and browse you will see peter naps HARP III. (Homemade A R Pistol) It was a pump action AR in 223.

Later in life I built one in rifle length for 50 BMG called the HARP IV and still later I built a HARP V as an inline 50 muzzle loader

Here's a link to their site Terry. No it doesn't show the arrows or any detail. I think they did make a ball firing model in a rotary magazine that was banned in the UK.

When I made my first one, I had access to a real one and took it apart.

The arrows are standard arrows that had been cut to 16" by cutting the back end off and re fletching. This left a hole. Inside that big barrel is a smaller barrel the size of the ID of the arrow shaft (If memory serves me right the arrows were 2218 and I used a 2050 shaft as the inside barrel, something like that)

Anyhow....when you fire it the inside of the arrow pressurizes and starts off. The jet wash from the end of the arrow then pressurizes the big barrel surrounding the arrow and gives it a second kick in the pants.

your refletched your small arrows? how do you load the fletched arrows into the barrel? are the fletches angled in a circular fashion laying around the shaft and then spring open when fired?

I made a plug to go in the hollow back so the arrow would fit on my fletching jig. I used a 4 vane straight fletch just like I use on my bow. I expect a normal 3 vane would work just as well, I was just set up for the 4's already.

The arrow is loaded from the muzzle. You just slip it over the inner barrel.

I put an O ring at the base of the inner barrel that was a snug fit for the arrow and th fletching also gave some security.

I can see that light bulb over your head from here...... :D
If you build it initially for CO2 and scrounge the stock parts....under $60.00 ;)

:D hmmmmmm i do have a few paintball guns :D

I sold paint ball stuff for the kids around here and have a co2 set up
you interested in some stuff? I'm out of it now the boys are away now
and I don't want to mess with it any longer

give you a good deal... :D under dealer cost..

Dam. As if I didn't already have enough to do. This sounds interesting. I have a 10/22 that my brotherinlaw borrowed and this sounds like a good reason to get it back. The idea of changable barrels sounds good. Don, when we get together this spring to do some black powder gun building maybe we could work on one of these too.

Wonder how many pumps it would take to push a 50 cal slug from a standard pump bb gun?

Enough to void the warranty on your Ti wrist and Elbow replacement joints :D
