I've wanted to post this for a while... How many of you and how often does your knife get noticed? I've actually been waiting for someone to notice and ask me about my (recently acquired) small 21. Hasn't happened yet..

It has only happened once when I wasn't using it and it was a fixed blade on my belt. Esee 5. The guy is an astronomy buddy. I took it out and let him hold it. He then went to his truck and got is Seal 2000 to show me.

Not often. I work at a hotel and once had my 5.11 CUB master karambit on me, and a guy commented on it(turns out, he worked for 5.11), and once when I was carrying on of my various Kershaws(I forget which one), some guy asked me "hey is that a Kershaw?", I told him yeah, he said sweet, he carries a Kershaw too, then pulled out a tanto Blur.

I've only had family members and police/tsa/fbi notice.

I think men are to stand-offish to comment on another mans accessories for the most part, I think it would take a genuine knife enthusiast to notice or bring up the topic of ones “cutting garb”, kinda the same with watches and other jewelry...

I was at the store once and noticed what looked like a custom job on a spyderco and kept trying to get a better look and then I noticed the cashier was smiling at me for “checking the guy out”...I try to keep my glaring knife eye more quick and discreet now.:o

Right on the $ as usual!!

Family and the police...that's about it....it's not something that anyone that doesn't know me has ever pointed out.

The only folks who have come up to me are those who are familiar with my hobby, and it is usually along the lines of, "What new knife are you carrying today?"

I once got asked by a (university) classmate; I was carrying a black/black PM2 clipped to my pocket, and the way my jacket swept to the side as I was sitting down put it pretty much in his line of sight. He was from the Caribbean, so more American than his non-colonial Dutch counterparts, and generally a "chill" guy to begin with.

The exchange went more or less like: "Hey man, I've noticed before... is that a knife clipped inside your pocket?" "Yeah, it is. I guess I'm usually more discreet about it in class." "All right, cool, cool."

A professor was standing nearby—fortunately, one of our few American ones, from Florida at that—who made a mild crack about "those [decidedly non-violent professionals in my previous career] and their knives"; nobody made a thing of it, but I carried a Sage 1 the next day.

(Not that I was breaking any kind of law or going out of my way to hide it—I carried concealed in Texas back when printing, even by accident, was a crime, so I'm no stranger to 100% concealment—but I also didn't particularly want to stand out like that.)

Not sure I'd want to be noticed for my knife. Never been shy about using it, just that it's a tool ready as necessary.

I always ask if I spot someone with a pocket clip. I try to be discreet about it. 9 times out of 10 it's a Tac Force or Lowe's special.

Not one person has asked about my knives, other than customers at work. Never in public.
Socal isn't friendly like other states though.

Come to Norcal.
Totally different state :-p
But then pocket clips are so common here if you ask somebody about it they know you are one of them city folks.

Only guy who ever talked to me about any of my stuff uninvited was some ToGo employee when he saw my wallet.

If I'm with my kids people small talk lots with me but so far never about who made them or what alloys they are made of. Though a couple of times I got compliments on how sharp they are :-o

I love norcal! Of all the places I've visited, it was the nicest place. Random people at stop signs wave hello and such. I'd love to retire there in a cabin near the city but also the sequoia or redwoods.

Since I buy and use knives solely as tools, I don't wear them hoping them to be noticed. However, I have been approached once by the owner of a coffee shop I frequent, he inquired into the SOG multi-tool I had on my belt. He showed me his leatherman on his belt, then I noticed a BM940 in my pocket and asked him about it, got to handle it, and then showed my BM950 as well. It was a surprise, made me kinda uncomfortable since we were in a coffee shop. Otherwise, I go unnoticed or at least unmentioned.

In the 45 or 50 years I've been carrying a knife, I cannot think of a single instance when someone asked me about the knife I had. Ask to borrow it, yes, but never comments pro or con about what I had or why I had it. Not even when I lived in San Bernardino, CA. and EDC'd a Western L66. (open carry)
Of course, back when I was young, it was expected and taken for granted that a man had a knife on his person, and a lady had one (or more) in her purse, just like it was expected and taken for granted they had a wristwatch. (excluding some of the old timers who had pocket watches)

I get comments on my knife frequently. I work in a retail environment, in a small store, and we don't have a back area to check in shipments, so when a package shows up, I just pull out my knife at the register, and open that sucker up.

Due to a couple employess who have a bad habit of leaving the store boxcutters laying around, often with the blade out, I now control all box cutters, and they have to be signed out and in, by me, or the owner. Yet I still carry at least 2 knives a day. Everyone's gotten to the point where unless there's a big truck delivery and lots of boxes, they'll just bring anything needed cutting to me, even if I'm with a customer.

Knives are tools, and my ZT 0200 is a bigass tool, that gets seen by lots of anti weapon people being used as a tool all the time. I think I'd get fired if the owner knew I carried a gun at work also, but hey, she's a lesbian, so I stick to the don't ask, don't tell mantra the military used for so long.

I can remember my knife getting noticed only one time. My boss saw me using it at work and told me I had to use the company issued utility knife instead.

I'm glad I don't work there. The owner lets me use any knife I want. I'm going to see how lax she is with my knife carry since I've been more attracted to fixed blades lately, and that means OWB belt carry versus the pocket clip of a folder.

heck, at the convenience store I worked at I was REQUIRED to carry, whenever I was on company property.
