Spine file work

This may be a tad premature seeing as I still have my first 2 blades in progress. But I'm loving it so much so far (and have already spent more money than I ever planned or should have on materials) I've started planning about 5 more knives for the rest of the summer. Heh... good thing I start working in 2 weeks...

I was wondering if there were some good resources for spine file work, including some examples or maybe even tutorials. My main concern would be how to keep the edges crisp and not have them blend from hand sanding. I have a variety of round files and triangular files... so I should be able to make do with the tools I have.

Once I get a bit more practice I hope to make a nice hunting knife for an uncle that I rarely see, but he took me hunting for the first time ever when I was 12 and I want to give him a (very belated) gift for a very memorable experience. I just want to have a very unique feel to the knife, and I have always drooled over some of the file work I see on custom knives...

I think it's already too late to cut my losses and run here guys :D

Thanks in advance!

Glue your sandpaper to a hard, flat backing that has the edges rounded, so they won't engage on the edges of the file grooves.

I've messed with some files and it didn't turn out too bad, still have alot to learn though...

Gorgeous :D

I plan to do mine on the length of the spine between the handle slabs. Can't wait!
