Do you believe the "spine whack test" is a legitimate indicator of lock integrity? If your knife fails this test, do you feel it merits a warranty return?

Maybe a legitimate test of the lock, but not necessarily of the knife.

It's a catch 22 for me because it "may" demonstrate an unsafe lock in a knife that you might not discover until it's too late but I think it's a form of abuse too.

I have never spine whacked a folder of mine yet so perhaps I'm walking around waiting for an accident to happen . . . Who knows . . .

Yeah, Stabbie - here we go. You bring the popcorn, I'll bring the beer.

Doesn't sound very scientific just to whack one knife by hand.

Yes, I'm not sure I want to test all my knives because of what the findings might be. I also can't think of a scenerio while using a folder where this kind of force against the spine will actually happen.

I did do a search before I started this thread. I wasn't satisfied with the results.

Here's the proper results:
"Yes."
"No."
"Perhaps."
"Yes!"
"No!"
"Um, not sure."
"Yes!!"
"No!!"
"I don't do it."
"YES!!!
NO!!!

Repeat as desired.

People no longer do spine whacking to test their folding knives--it's way out of style.

Now they baton them. :D
