Even though Manuela and I are tied up with this Texas forced eminent domain move, we were able to to attend the Spirit of Steel Show. (Since it was just up the road a couple hundred miles).

We had a fantastic time. good food, Good friends, and made a few new friends!

We only had a couple of Knives to take for sale. Not the usual fair at all. We never have more than 3 or 4, but this year, they were very different.

We ended up having to do the lottery. It seems like there are never any Lovett Knives for the people to see. We always sell out in the first few minutes. If we even make it into the room with any at all. More than once we have been bought out completely on the way into the Show. We felt this just wasn't fair to all the good people who travel far, and pay their money to see Knives. After all. It is supposed to a "KNIFE SHOW"! Not a Knife sale. The Selling and buying, Not to mention trading is the Icing on the cake.

Steve Johnson had suggested that we might want to try the Lottery system since our Knives were in such demand. Well, we finally tried it, and WooHoo! It was a BLAST!!!

Here are the Knives that were in the Lottery.

The first is the All New New York Special in all integral style. It is of course a Loveless Connection Knife as authorized by RW Loveless.

These are made from "Drop", cut from the bar, or blade that forms the Clip area on the Famous RW Loveless Big Bears. This Drop is shipped from the Riverside Shop to the Lovett Shop here in Central Texas. It's the real deal.
We hope you like it!

Here is a shot that is a little easier to see. We wanted you to see the workmanship up close. Closer than any customer picking up the knife to see it first hand.

The second Knife isn't what any of you would expect to see from Lovett Knives. It isn't a Loveless Connection knife but rather a Knife I designed during the beginning of Desert Storm. The original saw Combat is a up close and personal way. It has been stated in one of the Knife Rag's that the first "Kill" by an American Soldier with a Knife in Sand Land, was just recently. It showed the Knife.

I kinda felt this was in bad taste. The first incident was in the Desert Storm Theater. The Knife saved my customers life. Upon his return here to Ft. Hood, he ordered several more of friends, including a highly polished one with carved ivory for himself.

This is a re-design of the original. It was delivered at the SoS show to a fellow who goes places we don't want to go. In fact he was called away early in the morning and could not be at the show on Sunday. He was already in the air before the Show opened. He is the modern version of Hatcher. (The fellow RW Loveless designed the Loveless Chute Knife for. (Yes it was Bob Loveless who designed and first made the Chute Knife. I don't care what the advertisement in a few recent Knife magazines say.)

I had never entered a Knife judging competition before, but thought I would give it a try. And with a Grey Turd no less. Not one of our highly collectible Loveless Connection Knives. I knew it didn't have a chance.

IT WON!!! WOW!!! It took Best Combat Knife.

Here she is. More than likely, this knife will never been seen by the public again. Like so many Lovett Knives. I have made a few thousand knives by now. But most never see the light of day. At least not for the public. This is why so many didn't know about, or have never seen a Lovett until I went more public when I started the Loveless Connection Project.

You see a lot of advertisements for Tactical Knives. They have a catch script, and a pic many times of some special forces guy posing for the pic. Real operators don't get their pic's taken. Much less for the world to see. It's their life on the line for ALL OF US every day. All over the world in places many of us have never heard of . This is one of the reason I have never advertised the Real Lovett Knives. And there will be no pic's of customers or talks of their deeds. Just know that they are out there. For us. Risking it all. They are the Real UN-Sung Hero's.

Thank you! You have Balls my Friends!

Because of you, I am free to do what I do.

as always great work Mike... hate to hear about an "eminent" domain move, just those words anger me.

and the other makers , collectors, and spectators, I am glad that I participated in
my first show.Thanks!

He, thanks for getting that done for me Doug!

We got a kick out of it Earl! It was a great and laid back Show, Just plain fun . But man, I ate way too many of those 21+ day aged ribeye Steaks over at Bass-Pro. Ouch!

But that new Sig I picked up over there is kicking butt!

Hey RM, Man I miss Ala!

A little about the Show.

Friday was a little slow for everyone. But then again, I usually don't do Fridays, so I really don't know what it should be like.

Bruce Voyles did a great job. We had a lot of traffic, and a lot of good makers. There were a few old legends cruzing the isles. Ruffen "El Solo Lobo" Johnson, WC Johnson. Newer old makers. Lol! Harvey Dean had some great knives. Self was there. Ernie Emerson did very well in the Lottery. John Young was unable to attend, but Bruce held a lottery for him. I so much wanted to handle a few of his Knives. But it wasn't to be. Every time I went over to Bruce's table, he was busy. He always has a lot of killer knives with him. ( For those that don't know, Bruce was the Editor of Blade for years. He is now the editor of Knives Ill.) I think he did a fine job with the show. especially with todays rough times for so many!

Only complaint- the mass mailer invitation arrived in the mail here at the house today. If this was the same for everyone, it undoubtedly left a lot of people out of the loop.

I hope many of you will try and attend next year. It is a very enjoyable show with out a lot of the rapid fire pace of shows like the Blade Show. I really enjoyed it.
