The Knives Illustrated Spirit of Steel Knife Show has been postponed until a to-be-determined date in 2010.

Reason for postponing the show is that my daughter is expected to be delivering my grandchild that weekend. We were in the delivery room when my grandson was born in 2007, and we will be there for this one as well.

If you have grandchildren, you understand. If you don't have grandchildren may you be so blessed at some point (and then you too will understand why we postponed the show).

As Debbie and I run the show and would therefore not be able to be at the show, we felt it best to postpone the show. It will be rescheduled.

For far too many years in the 80's I spent Halloween at knife shows in either Cincinnati or Anaheim. Because I was attending knife shows I missed taking my girls trick-or-treating most of the time. Looking back at my memories of those shows, versus my memories of the times I was able to take my daughters trick-or-treating, I know now that I made the wrong choice then. I made a promise to myself that I would not make that kind of mistake again, and to manage a knife show while my daughter is having a baby is a mistake I do not intend to make.

Yep, good decision. There will always be knife shows.

We do/did miss a lot in trying to provide the best for our children.
Grandchildren are our second chance.

Mr. Voyles (yes I know how you feel about it but heck you're a Pawpaw :D) I fully understand and while I know people will feel put out; you're doing right by your own. I spent a lot of my life tramping around the world for Uncle Sugar and my kids got mementos instead of memories. I'm trying to spend the time I have now building memories instead of providing momentos. Hope that makes sense.

there is a real thin edge between providing for one's family, and being there for them. Sometimes these things are mutually exclusive, and sometimes they aren't.

It's always a choice to make, and commitments to business and personal interests should be superseded at 'the right' times by familial commitments. The hard part is determining when and where to aim that choice.

Expectations are hard to deal with, especially when one is in a position to affect so many, in making one's choices.

I would like to wish you the best of health and happiness, in welcoming your grandchild to his/her new life:).

My wishes go out to your daughter for as easy a delivery as possible and a healthy and happy baby that sleeps through the night.

That's too bad about the Sprit of Steel show. I noticed in the April 2009 issue of Knife World that another J. Bruce Voyles show scheduled for April 15-19 was also cancelled!

wow! let's hope that all the makers who reserved a table have grandchildren themselves, as well as all the potential visitors.

but then, who am i, not being blessed with grandchildren?

best regards,
hans

Bruce, I am sorry to hear about the show, but I fully understand. Family comes first and making memories with your children and grandchildren is something you can not put a price on. So a pre congratulations on your grandchild.

Guys,

The show has been postponed...not canceled.

Hi Hans,

Were you actually coming to the show from "Old Europe" or are you just busting Bruce's balls?

If you are looking for something in particular at the show, let me know what it is and I can ship it to you when I return from the show.

Guys,

The show has been postponed...not canceled.

Maybe I missed something, but to me, if there will be no show in 2009 and it is moved around the horn into 2010.....then the 2009 show is effectively cancelled. Call it whatever you like, but it won't be there in 2009.

Paul
