I looked at the Al Mar SLB, and at the SOG Sculptura, but got the Spitfire because (a) I liked its appearance _much_ better, and (b) the grip appeared to be more secure than the others. Now that it's here, I like everything about it except the d*mn vertical blade play, which to my non-expert eyes and feel appears to be a consequence of the locking pin being a few thousandths too small in diameter or not quite fitting where it's supposed to. I've read that others have experienced the same thing with this model--is there any reasonable hope of getting it fixed by Schrade? Are they likely to fix the overall problem, be it one of design or one of machining tolerances, and maybe offer a retrofit? How hard is it to take these apart, anyway? Thanks.

Hello I wish I could help with the mechanics of the knife however. My mechanical abilitys and overall handyman skills make me living proof that some people need more than an opposing thumb for dexterity.

I have never known Schrade not to at least attempt to correct a problem in fact if it is something affecting the overall line of knives I am sure they would want to hear your opinion.

I would suggest contacting them ( at there home page on this site). Good luck let us know how you make out. LT

i've got the same issue but never bothered to call schrade, ironically because it seems to be a common complaint. had it only been my particular knife, i definitely would have called. i'm not too concerned about the play as my thumb is usually on the spine while cutting, putting downward pressure to counter the blade play. i do wish it wasn't there, so let us know what schrade says.

taking the knife apart is easy. putting it back together is a bitch due to the lanyard release.
