Hey axe-heads.

My dad needs a new Axe for christmas.

He doesn't want some junky Canadian Tire axe though.

Can you guys recommend a QUALITY splitting axe that I can get for him?I don't mind spending a bit of dough. He was saying around 3.5lbs would be ideal.

Also, is there anywhere I can order one of your suggestions online in Canada? Stores in my city are limited.

Thanks

Gransfors Bruks large splitting axe has a 3.5 lb head on a 27 inch handle. It will be at the opposite end of the spectrum from the junky canadian tire axe. It's got quality and class for about 160 dollars.

For a splitting axe I'd look for a 4-pounder with a 36" handle and the convex cheeks that are hard to find in new axes. And being as it's for your father and recognizing what age does to the hands I'd recommend a curved handle with a large swell. I'd be shopping that auction site.

But this one would do.

Your father might appreciate a small band of friction tape applied just at the swell.

Thanks for the reply. He will love one of these. I'm actually thinking he might like one of the 'felling' axes more. I think i'm going to pick up the American Felling Axe. I think I didn't mean splitting axe maybe and I'm just pulling a rookie mistake. ha ha. Thanks again!
