Splitting Wood with a Saw

That guy in the video should have just battoned the wood to beginn with. He would have been done a whole lot faster.
I have tried that too and really did not care for it. It is anther way to split wood though.

You were this close to sawing through your femoral. Why are you trying to force all of these dangerous techniques on us?:p

I have used a similar technique with my hawk.... one hack on an angle to achieve the same initial cut as the saw.

This technique is great for getting half-rounds when you don't have a knife for battoning. It is also a good idea in a survival situation, when battoning with your only blade is too risky.

Good stuff.

Sicily...I think this technique shines when your initial wood is too thick to baton with you belt knife... as depicted the original piece is a bit girth for the length of the mora blade..( I don;t think enough of the tip would be clear of the log to present a good target)

Cool video - just goes to show that you can improvise if you don't have a specific tool for the job.

Never heard of this one before. I hardly carry a saw but that's another bit of mental kit for the bag. Thanks for posting!

Right on! This is a very handy skill for those of use who carry a folding saw and a 3-5" fixed blade. Being able to split larger rounds into more manageable parts that are better shaped for batoning with a small blade is a great skill.
