Today I wanted to split some wood with the HOFSH LE.
After giving the knife a new edge that made the knife able to shave hair I was off to the forest.
I chopped pine for about 30 min and then split it by hammering the knife true the log. To do so i hit the log on a stum and pushed the knife true. I also batoned some logs.
The knife showed no deformation on the edge and the new edge sooms to work better then the factory one.
Maybe the knife just had to be broken in.
It took about 3 min to make the knife shaving SHARP on spidercos ceramic rods. I am one happy camper.
I did however geta big blister on my thumb from all the chopping:grumpy: I was even wearing gloves.
I think this was due to the rough patern on the slabs and putting some more sooth ones on the knife would make it better IMO. I also think tampering the tang in the handle would make it a better knife. Just my five cents

Cheers,

André

Awesome pic!

Battle scars really give them character, don't you think? :D

I know what you mean, the micarta is a little rough for extended use. The older (Straight handle line) have smooth micarta, they are pretty cool too and may be what you are looking for.

She looks awesome I do the same thing with my FSH . Nice seein the beast is gettin used:thumbup:

GReat picture! :)

Looks like you had a fun day in the woods...

Thanks for the pics- really nice knife! How do you use the rods on a convex edge? Or did you completely reprofile it? Help- I love my FSH, but it could be sharper.

Awesome! I just let my son chop his cake up with my Heavy Heart for his 21st B-Day. I swear these FSHs wil cut anything!:D

Damn, you are beating the hell out of my knife!!! Good job!

Looks like a good time, blisters aside.

On a side note, Jerry has often said that he has seen the knives get sharper after their first use and resharpening. Something about the factory edge being almost too sharp or something. I can't remember exactly. The nice thing about the mag slabs man is you can sand then down here and there and still have plenty of slab left.

I gave the knife a new normal edge with my Arkansas stones and a real fine natural stone. I made the new edge slightly thinner. I think a fine edge works best for chopping. for rope cutting I would make the edge more rough. OR chop the rope:D

Good point I plan on doing something about that handle. I hope Randucci willnot get angry with me.:o I might give a new handle like this one. I have some nice masaic rods and might go with some Musk ox horn or some Mammoth ivory if I can't find any top grade Desert ironwood.

It's your knife man, do what you want with it. I am sure Porkducci will not be too upset if it ended up with a set up like that on it either way. :)

This is common for a lot of knives, generally you want to ignore the performance until a few sharpenings to make sure you are seeing stable behavior. Nice work.

Nice job you've done with that HOFSH LE! I think you had a very nice day, playing with your INFI toy;) :D

Looks like you had a lot of fun wielding that chunk-o-infi! :D if i lived nearby a forest i'd be chopping like a maniac too lol  The park is mine :D

I live about 5 minutes walking distance from the forest:D
My wife just shakes her head when I tell her that I am going to the woods, she has stoped asking "what's in the backpack" She knows:D
Chopping full power for 30 minutes is a good workout:D

André

5 min walking for a 30 min workout sounds like a good deal  you are one lucky infi user! i can see planes land from where i live, i'd trade that damn airfield for a forrest any day.
But one thing, what did you do with all that chopped pine? took it home for the fireplace or was it just for the chopping hehe :D
Last option isn't weird, or is it?? i use my stihl chainsaw just for the fun of it (Timbeeeeer...) not because i need the firewood :D cant wait to put a HH in one of those logs.

This wood was chopped just for the hell of it:D Testing the knife. When I am done with the test of the knife I will clean up the area, that is if there is anything left to clean up:D
Stihl rules my friend got the BIG one and two smaller ones. Best chainsaw made.
When you have the time get in your car and go where it is green.
When you get your HH take the coating of and satin finish the blade. Less friction and a cooler look IMO.

Cheers,

André
