Been using a 12lb (maybe 14) Monster Maul for years. Split 6 cords a season of mostly hardwood no larger than 24in rounds, some knotty some not. Recently acquired Fiskars x27 splitting axe and it is amazing even in green wood. Green and knotty poses problems for both so I'm looking for something in the 6lb-8lb range. Seeing how much I enjoy the Fiskars splitting axe I was considering their splitting maul. I have also eye-balled the BASH splitting maul and the STIHL splitting maul (the one with the protective metal collar). The hardware store mauls are atrocious. Any insight or direction would be great. Also need a good chopping axe for some Siberian elm and poplars but I am most likely going with the Fiskars chopping axe. I am a Fiskars fan but I just want a good tool that will last. Thanks folks.
