I googled map the area and there seems to be lots and lots of open spaces to go to.

I'm not much on Spokane. Usually when I'm there I just end up sitting around with friends. But just a short drive to the east is Cour d'Alene; and that's one of God's gifts to man.

Sorry, I dont spend any time that east of the mountains. Maybe a few other Washtonians will pipe in here that have lived here longer.

Thanks guys any help would great. Eisman I'm going to google that park it would be great to go on a hike where everything is not brown or grey like here in SO CALI.

there are great hiking/biking/ mountain biking trails all along the spokane river.Bowl and pitcher area. Also 5 mile, 7 mile,9 mile areas .Red lion is a solid hotel , there are 2 of them near riverfront park. One is more expensive than the other so check that out prior to booking. Lots of places in walking distance of riverfront park/hotels.Frankie doodles is the place to eat near riverfront park, right off the freeway, especially if you are crawling back from the bar. Also check out Manitou park up on the south hill area of town.Check out the Viking for a good place to sample beers from around the world.
Also stop by REI in Spokane and they can set you up with a good trail depending on what you want.
Mount Spokane is decent if your going out towards the Valley.

This is a place that I stayed at several times when taking my daughter up to Spokane for college. It is not far from the Whitworth Campus. Not as nice as a Hilton, but adequate.

I don't know about hiking trails, but i did visit a local fish hatchery not far from town that was very interesting. If you go, take some cheap cereal or old bread to feed the fish. Its at the north end of town. http://start.cortera.com/company/research/k2k8qus4s/spokane-fish-hatchery/

There is a really interesting place that sells iron statues at the corner of E. Mission Avenue and N. Ruby street. In the front they have a statue of a dog that is about 4 foot tall at the shoulder.

Spokane. For easy hiking.
Dishman hills natural area
Go out Appleway (Sprague exit). (if you can't find it, just google Dishman Dodge dealership). Just past the dodge dealer, on the right hand side (if you are coming from the west) some wooded foothills. There are some great trails there, considering they are basically in city limits. Several neat miles of wooded trails, some with great views of the valley.

(I can't remember the name of this hiking area, but it is great).

This link has trail info for Spokane.

Liberty lake is also a great hiking area. It abuts the national forest if I am not mistaken. You can hike for days there if you want, and you are still within 30 minutes of Spokane proper.

If you go the other direction, down by the river where it goes under the main bridges right as you are coming into the city of Spokane.

There are great river trails, with nice beaches right down on the white water. Devils punch bowl, etc. There is a camping ground, where you can park, then hike along the river on both sides. There is a suspension bridge to cross to the other side.

This is a trail that some friends and I hike when we get the chance. This requires a special permit for parking.

The Centennial trail runs along the Spokane River. You can walk to Idaho going east and to Riverside State Park going west.

I live 80 miles east of Spokane along I-90 in Idaho, but Spokane is our hub. Lots of stuff close to Spokane like mt. Spokane, liberty lake, lake Coeur d Alene and the trails around beauty bay. You can make an drive up the Coeur d Alene river or even the St. Joe river and then into the Wallace/Moon Pass area.

About an hour away is Silver Mountain and there s an 3mile gondola ride and there's biking and trails up on that ski hill as well as tons of backwoods roads and trails. This is where I live.

There is also all the bike trails along the Spokane river, the Trail of the Coeur d Alenes, and the Route of the Hiawatha that takes you thru train trestles and big tunnels via bikes/rental. Nice ride and scenery.

Priest lake is also an nice day trip.

Thats alot of googling info i need to do. I'm going to bring my GPS and maybe do some Geocaching in the area as well. Thanks for all the info guys, Now im realy looking forward to have that seminar. Well actualy i'm looking forward for the after seminar, Coeur D'Alenes come up often on here. Im thinking maybe i would stay one night over there and have some fun. If any one has any more links to place please do post them.

Tubbs Hill is in Coeur d Alene. There are trails above Beauty Bay/Gotham Bay outside of Coeur d Alene with some good views of the lake. There's also bike trails if your into that or even para sailing on the lake, as well as summer boat cruise/parties. It's really what you want to do for activities.

Oh, there is Hayden lake just a few miles away from Coeur d Alene so that is an option as well.

PM me specifically with what you have in mind and I'll give you an location.

One more great location for a short day hike is a place called Deep Creek very cool hike lots to look at and pretty close to town.

" Where: Drive North on Division to Francis and turn left and West. Drive all the way past Indian Trail Road and then down the hill all the way to Seven Mile Road and take a left. Drive over the bridge over the Spokane river and continue uphill and take the right hand turn right before the second bridge which is over Deep Creek canyon where you see the Park sign. N 47º 45' 030" W 117º 32.655' Almost immediately you will see a place to park. Walk down the hill to the left and enter Deep Creek the creek and turn right. at the creek. Walk down the creek and almost instantly enter through the cave or around to the inside of the fossil bed area. Explore from there or start where Deep Creek meets the Spokane River, and then walk up the creek into the fossil beds."

I have always walked down to the river on the trail then explored up the creek leaving back near the parking area. Anyway hope you find a great location while your in town, dont be fooled by the spokane trash talk there is a ton to do in the great outdoors, just minutes from town.

The Bowl and Pitcher is also a nice place and would be near the top of my list as well!
