Spokeshaves

My favorite is the Stanley 151. I think a few others on here are using the same thing.

I have a 61 and it's more of a hassle to adjust. Once adjusted it works fine. The thing is that it's sometimes better to make frequent fine adjustments as the work requires.

What about a Stanley 51? i see a few of those on ebay at the moment

I have a 51 and it works ok but my 152 is better in that it has 2 adjustable wheels for really fine adjustments. The 51 has no fine adjustment wheels. The 152 is just like the 151 except has a straight handle.

Here are pictures of what I have

Top shave is is a Stanley 151 with the adjustors mentioned previously. Next is a 51. Both are flat bottomed, both IMHO are nice shaves. The 151 is obviously easier to set the blade, but I don't mind setting up the 51 so the adjustors aren't a make or brake for me. Next is a Stanley 63. It's a little smaller and has a round bottom. This one is my favorite. The little guys on the bottom are no-names, but work well in tight spots.

These work well and are just plain fun. Note the top and bottom shaves have their blades held in with thumb screws to hold the blade in and adjust cut depth, while the blades for the two in the middle are friction fit. For a user with a wood body I'd reccomend one with the thumb screws and a brass wear plate.
