I know a lot of guys already use these, but some folks probably haven't seen them

they are a sewing machine bobbin- I found a 12 pack at Walmart for $2 :)

I needed to wrap some snare wire on and found it difficult going until I drilled a small hole (sorry pic is a little fuzzy)- a small length is put into the hole to help w/ the winding

here is the bobbin loaded w/ 19 gauge stainless wire (~ 12-15')- which makes great snare wire- stuff is very tough (I see some guys using as small as 25 gauge which can often be too light), stuff also makes a great bail handle for a tin can, heavy aluminum foil, etc

would be great for fishing line, etc as well

Cool stuff! I remember you posting about these before, but I totally forgot about it. :)

Love those bobbins. I carry some loaded with Spiderwire. I need to unwine one to see how much they hold.

To wind them I take a drill bit that just barely fits through the center hold. Wrap several wraps of masking tape around the bit. I slid the bobbin onto the drill bit so that when the bit is put in the chuck of my drill it holds the bobbin tight. Then just wind away. I put a small ranger band around the bobbin of spiderwire and I'm done.

Hadn't throught about using them for wire but sounds great.

that's a good idea- might work for wire too, will have to give that a try :)

I put the bobbin on a #10 (I Think?) stove bolt with a nylock nut. Chuck the bolt in my drill and "wind away".

Someone said to stay away from winding monofilament on these, you just end up with a big tangled mess.

Monofiliment sucks on these - even the more memory deficient ones.

Spyderwire is just fine though - that is what I use from Spyderwire drop lines.
