Well,
Its been a short while since the last Spoon competition, and I am wondering if anyone else has been motivated to carve some new and "better" spoons.
I never got a chance to enter a spoon in the last competition, but I was inspired!
I just finished these last week..very relaxing to just sit at the kitchen table and whittle away some stress.
Post up any new spoon pics here!!!

Those are great....... well done. I'm going to get my camera back from the X tommorow and I'll take some pics to add to this. I love carving spoons. We should try and get some "in process" pics as well.

Great stuff G.K.N. :)

I like that spiral spoon! It crosses over into artistic territory. Very cool.

those look great Gene... nice work... i haven't made a spoon for a long time.. i need to give it a try again..

Works of art. Nice job guys.

We should do another spoon contest. Really helps shape carving skills.

The last spoon I made was a baby spoon for my best friend when his son was born. I need to make a couple bigger spoons.

Thanks guys..
It really is relaxing.
The big spoon was pretty hard..the side walls are thin. So its very delicate. Working near the end grain is slow going.
I forgot to add, I used birch root to carve these..I also like spruce root. I get to collect alot of root material on job sites when we excavate for foundations.
It carves really well, and its pretty stable. I started the spiral spoon 2 years ago..and it hasnt split..not to mention, the girls play with it all the time..so its pretty tough to.
The only thing of note on root material, is the "bark" on the root, has alot of dirt in it, so you have to watch your knife edge when taking it off. I use a thick knife to strip it, like a bowie, and then, get to work with my Mora's.

amazing creations here fellas. thanks for sharing. seems another spoon contest might be in order, even just for fun. but you guys have certainly upped the ante.
great work!

Randy.............. nicely done. The first ball n' cage I ever did I messed up so bad that my Granddad (in his Granddadish way) looked it over, smiled, and said...... "lets try this one again huh"???

That is pretty cool! NOW that takes some time to do, I bet!

Nice spoon guys!

Gene, I am glad you're getting all your spooning out of the way now. I don't want any of that going on during our trip in two weeks!

:p

Randy, nice ball-in-cage spoon! Very cool, and a good way to show off your whittlin' skills.
