I know they are done to death, so here's one more

Beech is wonderful to carve green, and sure hardens up when its dry.

Dang, real nice job . Do you leave the wood bare or will you stain it with something?

Its already oil treated. Mineral oil. You can hardly see a change when you apply it. Beech is so nice naturally I didn't want any stain to ruin it.

What is the name of the tool you used to dig out the scoop part? That is cool, Im going to make one soon. Thanks for posting it...

That spoon looks great!

I was curious where you got your spoon knife if you don't mind me asking.

That is an awesome spoon, and I in no means want to take away from it, but I am always confused when people make spoons and use those spoon knives. Yeah, they make the work go really nicely, and give great results, as demonstrated by your spoon, but how many of us are going to carry such a specialized blade into the woods with us? It would be lighter to carry the spoon than the tool to make one :D

I'm surprised that there are so few threads on here where people carve a spoon with just the tools they are actually likely to have in the woods, especially in a survival situation. Even if they are uglier than this fine example, it seems they'd be a lot more practical and realistic.

I always carry the spoon knife in my pack.
