I recently managed to get this knife in a trade.
It was likely contracted by this firm over 100 years ago!

Patina-ed, but hardly used, the big flaw is the checkered Horn handle. Eaten by moth/fly larvae, it weakened and broke, losing an insert tool in the process. Still a good candidate for restoration . . . . . . maybe!!??!!

That'd make your Breeches bulge :D

Great knife Charlie, interesting and beautifully built.

Best regards

Robin

If it was mine and I had the skills, knowledge, and tools to do it, (which I do not have) I'd restore it.
Looks like a great find. Congrats on getting it.

Great looking piece! It is elegant and utilitarian at the same time.

I think that because that knife is so rare and so old, there is nothing that anyone could do it that wouldn't decrease the value.

Probably lost 10% just by photographing it. :D

I think half the fun would be making the missing implement. I always enjoyed freehand grinding steel to meet my needs even I worked as a machine builder. It would be great to freehand a matching toothpick...

Codger, What is the era of the knife? Didn't men wear button boots also?

(1913 Life)

I haven't seen one of those ads in quite some time. My grandfather was a shoemaker for the Walk-Over Shoe Co. and we lived just a couple blocks from the factory in the Campello section of Brockton, MA. :D

Very interesting knife Charlie, and a nice find my friend

Moths you say?! Those devastating beasts cost me a couple of hundred quid last year! Hoping I've got rid of them, but better check my knives!
