According to you.. are Sportsman's Space Blankets a good option for a 1 piece multi-use tarp, blanket, ground cloth.. for the 12oz it weight?

Are there better suggestion ?

good piece of kit, I use to have that in my daypack before I carried a poncho with me, back then I had a rainjacket that compressed into a small sac.
Still carry it around in the winter though, with another 8x10 tarp, use that as a something to sit on, keep me off the snow.

I have one but I usually carry one or two of the much lighter Heat Sheets models from Adventure Medical Kits.

those blankets are very hardy and very well worth an addition to a pack

I've since gone to the AMK thermolite bivy and a heatsheet- less weight and volume and fits better w/ my most likely choice of shelters if forced overnight- a debris shelter- the heatsheet goes over the framed portion to keep moisture out and heat in (then heaped w/ debris), bivy to crawl in

if your more likely to build a lean-to type shelter the blanket might be a better option

What are the dimentions of the Adventure Medical Kits Heat sheats? Their website doesn't have that listed.

I have at least two of the space blankets mentioned by the OP. They were really well and are big enough for me (I'm 6'5"). I use them for ground cover or as part of a tarp shelter. For the Tarp shelter some times I'll use a tarp for 1 wall and the ground sheat and use the Space Blanket for the other wall. This being an A-frame style shelter. Has worked well for me over the years.

Depends what are your needs.

Those make pretty durable space blankets.
Maybe a bit small.
Pretty heavy.

If you use them a lot they might be worth having.

Now if you're more into light'n'fast or hike through, a basic mylar blanket might serve you better, although more like single use item.

About alternatives

If you want reflective layer:

there are many variations between the paper thin mylar blankets and this thing.

Ferrino used to make a reflective layer coated poncho. More versatile but general fit and finish was awful and it would leak/fall into pieces after a few outings.

You also got those things:

they are quite versatile
but a bit heavy if you don't use them a lot
(plus prices are ridiculous).

As noted above, the two-person heat sheet is 60 x 96. The AMK website has it at 3.5 oz. I feel that the heat sheets are best for emergency of limited use. I personally don't consider them durable enough for prolonged/repeated uses.

Agreed. And if you're willing to replace them regularly, as a cost of going light, then the durability shouldn't be a big issue.

I've used them for years and they hold up fine. They are a tad heavy and bulky. They are a great multi-use item but remember they can only do one function at a time. For true shelter use they have to be paired with a poncho, tarp, or another blanket. Of course if you build a shelter instead you can get by with one blanket. I almost always carry one and pair it with a heavy duty trash bag. Old school and I love it.

I like these for use as a ground cloth under your sleeping gear with a floor-less shelter / tent.

There is a new blanket from Adventure medical kits. I've got it for review.

Same size as the Grabber one but 3.5oz heavier... It will be interesting to see what the difference is. I will say that I like the dark green color of mine...
