spot vs hak

I had a spot in a passaround, and I like it. I was looking at the hak, and the utility models seem to be a great value for the price. They have been well recieved, but I have a question-in use, do they wobble left to right? I may get one for me, but I'm looking at one for my gf. I really liked the spot, but it has almost no tip penetration, is a little bigger, and comparable in price to the hak, which is custom sized. However, it was super secure in the hand, and you could get pretty good edge orientation. any thoughts?

What about the swick? Or do you need something for now? ;)

I would go with the HAK, it's more sexy.

If you size the HAK right, no wobble. Also no getting it out of your hand unless you decide to release it. SPOT may not fit her hands perfectly, but a HAK properly sized will fit like it was made for her- which it literally will be.

I've got a utility HAK. When I slide it on, it wobbles a bit. Then I clench my fist and it locks in place without cramping. You have to get the right size, which is not hard, going by the instructions.

I really want to cordwrap it, though. I think mine is just loose enough to support that, especially in this cold weather. (My bones are shriveling. :) )

i got a utility hak. and it dosent wobble if im clenching and my thumb is on the spine. (in other words, the intended grip)

unwrapped it fits me in the summer, wrapped fits good in the winter for me.

I like the SPOT a whole lot, but I think the HAK is a better design in every area. (I own both.) A properly fitted HAK does not wobble in a normal grip. If you end up with one that's just a little big, you can always wrap it with various sizes of cord to tighten the fit.

The HAK is a surprisingly versatile blade. It works well for all sorts of utility tasks and it can be a devastating self-defense weapon. The grip is totally secure and it lets you put full strength behind techniques. The angle of the blade allows it to be used like a push dagger for "punch" thrusts, in addition to slashing techniques.

I don't think you can get a better small self-defense knife. It is also worth noting that the SPOT is almost twice the size of a HAK, despite the similar blade lengths.

I believe it is a HideAway Knife. Regardless, I'm on the SPOT side. While it's true that I have never even held a HAK, I've never felt the need to. I own 2 plain edged VG10 SPOT knives and they are easily the best small fixed EDC knives I've owned (and I've owned a few). The only problem is the SPOT has been discontinued. Don't fret, though. Spyderco is coming out with a knife with the same (actually slightly better) ergos, but a bigger wharncliff blade in S30V called the SWICK. I pushed to have this knife developed, and was one of the lucky few to receive a concept model for testing several months ago. IT RULES!!!! Trust me; you'll love this knife when it becomes available (I believe they are doing a production run of 500 as I type this)! The SWICK is a truly awesome fixed EDC/neck knife. Don't miss out on it!

The HAKs are a great concept but have to be held to be truly appreciated.
I have a Strider Sting version and have been enjoying it continuously since it arrived.

HAK has the advantage of of being worn, but allowing the hand full grasp.

If in an defensive situation and escape is called for, the theknife can be worn while inserting keys into a car door lock, or holding a flashlight.

Plus, when worm in this manner, nearly impossible to knock knife out of the hand.

Take an average woman: Doesn't take much to get a regular knife out of Her hand. Grab Her wrist, or pop her forearm or wrist and out it flys.

Give Her a properly fitted HideAway knife, and you may be able to grab Her forarm, but She's got a good chance of cutting on you, before you can get the knife off Her TWO fingers.
