How well does a spotwelder work to attach nickel silver and stainless steel bolster to stainless and nickel silver liners for folders? I use 1/8 inch ns for bolsters on 1/32 inch ns liner. I have been silver soldering but was thinking about getting a spot welder like say a Miller or Hobart to attach bolster. So I have some questions.

How does welder work on Nickel Silver to NS? or Stainless bolster to stainless liner?

What about Nickel Silver to Brass liner?

Would you rather weld bolsters on or silver solder?

Would you use 220 volt or the 110 volt welder? what about other brands besides Miller or Hobart?

Any info. would be appreciated.

I'd check with your weld supplier, they might arrange a demo for your material. They should have some specs or be able to put you in contact with someone who does.

It's been awhile since I used a spot welder, but when I did, it caused quite a bit of distortion around the weld. I can't see this as being a good thing for folders, where tolerances are all-important. Then again, I could have just been using it wrong, I was 13 or so at the time...

Thanks for the info and emails. I know some are using spot welders (pincher type) to attach stainless steel bolsters to ss liners. Still haven't heard from nickel silver fans. New question

Can you spot weld Titanium and does it cause the colors that anodizing does?
