Saturday was a dilemma..Shall i stay in town and go to our social clubs Xmas party? As much booze as you can drink, crayfish ,prawns, oysters etc etc etc..or drive for 5 hours to spot X and see if i can get some Xmas venison...
6 hours later im in my sacred place, light drizzle and a favourable wind...perfect stalking conditions..I hadnt gone far when i smelt a familiar smell.STAG!!..Fresh sign everwhere...I slow down to stealth mode, peer hard and spot an ear move....I watched this animal for over a minute as he grazed away, every 15 seconds or so he nosed the air looking for danger...
A steady shot from 15 yards put a mineral injection (22/250) in the apricot and i know that animal felt no pain.. Ralph Bone (that i gifted to my dear friend) did the coup de grace then a quick gutting and easy carry out....Home by midnight.
Skinned and boned out the next morning with the following traditionals....Case Hunter,Sharp finger and my beloved Schrade (GEC) #23 Trapper.....A good day and decision........FES

Its great to see the Ralph Bone again Cossack, I just happened to be looking through the bay at them the other day!

That Sharpfinger is a knife I admire! Wish you could still get one new.

Thanks, Will

Great story fez. I have been recuperating a rotator cuff injury, so no hunting for me this season, unfortunately. Maybe next year. Nice reading your story. I'd have done the same thing. Keep away from the people and all. :)

Good shooting and great post fes

I think, given the opportunity and means, I would happily have made the same decision.

Glad to see you'll be eating well this Christmas.

Have a good one sir.

Great story and harvest, FES! That meat sure looks lean. I would have taken that memory over the other choice as well

I'd have had a hard time turning down that Xmas party, but looks like your decision turned out to be the wiser! Congrats on yet another successful hunt! Outstanding animal you took, and seems (as always) you were well-equipped to process.

Nice spot x-mart you got there, lovely meat aisle, tool department is not bad either... ;)

I was about to lament the fact that you missed out on all the good seafood, but all that venison you got, well, that more than makes up for it ;).
