According the spyderco website, all the SPOT models are being discontinued. Is this because they didn't sell well or will they be evolving like the Lil' Temperance? Exactly how have the 'new improved' versions been improved?

I'm intending to order a VG-10 PE version but if they are being disco'd then I'm quite tempted to get a SE AUS-6 too. Anyone have any comments comparing the two steels and edges on this knife?

I have been hot for a spot to why did they got from vg-10 to aus-6
and when?
Thanks

It was the other way around if I'm not mistaken.

There were two models.

1 - VG-10 steel with black Micarta edging on the handle
2 - AUS-6 steel with plain steel handle

Hope this helps!

the SPOT is a remarkable blade. Very underrated. With the finger hole, it is a very strong grip and can deliver a powerful slash. Goes with me everywhere.
Get one and you will see the qualities of this great design.Shame its being discontinued.

I prefer plain edge. The S shape works very well, with a recurv point for detail work and the curve is handy for stripping wire. Clever blade
. I have my eye on a Wharncliff modification I had seen on one of the knife boards,. Then again, Hawk SPOT would be nice too!

Aloha ALL!

I love the SPOT...I like the PE version also, but for street, I could use an SE...As nuggett (Howzit bro!) said, too bad...

Also, it would have been great to see a few variants like a Hawk or Wharnie...

God bless

They are discontinued with no plans to "improve".

I guess they didn't sell as well as they deserved to. sigh

I'm going to observe a moment of silence for the passing of a great design.

Ordered a VG-10 PE and a AUS6 SE along with a sharpmaker and a blue box from NGK. Now to wait the fortnight for it them to turn up...
First knife purchase this year IIRC!

Spot & Stingers? Sounds like you're pretty well kitted out. What's the policy on Stingers in the UK?

Legal to own but not to carry (I emailed HM Customs & Excise!). Oh BTW I'm not buying all this stuff for a fight or whatever-I collect the knives, and sell the stingers (difficult to find in the UK).

Cheers abe! I don't quite understand the Skinny Puppy thing though?

Is the boltaron sheath on the SPOT similar to kydex? I've not seen boltaron before and was hoping it's not hard like the CRKT F4 sheath is, otherwise I'm gonna have to have a go at sheath making next :D

Cheers Dave- wouldn't want to get nicked w/ a Spot under my shirt.
The Spot sheath isn't like the CRKT sheaths- don't worry.

sorry; Skinny Puppy is an industrial band (been around since '83, they just came back in 2004 after breaking up in '96). a guy named David Ogilvie produced many of their albums; his nickname was "Dave Rave". :D

I got them yesterday after £19.55 of Customs charges...
I'm really liking the way they lock into your hand. My only trouble at the moment is the SE model is very stiff to remove from the sheath, even after loosening the tension screw.
Any suggestions to loosen it?

Both of my SPOTsheaths were the same way, so I just I removed the tension screws all together. Haven't had a problem since, and they still hold just fine.
