"Spots" on DLC Blade

I recently bought a first production Kershaw Spec Bump with a black blade. Kershaw lists the blade as having a "tungsten DLC coating." I was preparing the knife for storage by applying Renaissance Wax, which I always do when preparing a knife for long-term storage. When I held the blade so that I could see light reflecting on it, I noticed that the blade had "spots" on it, where some spots looked darker than others. The overall appearance looked like there was oil on some parts of the blade, and no oil at all on other parts. Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to make the blade uniformly black? I'm not a big fan of black blades so I don't have a lot of experience with black DLC blades.

Thanks in advance for the help.

DLC does not "seal" a blade from any sort of corrosion, if in fact that is what it is. It's hard to say what you are seeing without looking at a picture of the spots.

As I understand it, DLC coatings absorb oil. They look grey when dry and blacker when oiled.

Try wiping the whole blade with mineral oil.

I'm sure it's not corrosion of any kind. Holygoat's "grey when dry" description seems accurate. I'll try the mineral oil and see if that helps. I thought about using an oil but wasn't sure what type of oil would be best for long-term storage. Thanks for the advice.

I use a good carnuba car wax. Your DLC blade will look new and the finish will look even.
