Considering buying off eBay. Anyway to spot a fake? I see one I want, and can’t find it at my usual haunts, so, need to know if fake or not. Is there a list of legit eBay sellers somewhere maybe.

Make sure all the paperwork, box fit the time frame for the year the knife was made. See if you can get a pic of the date on the slabs. Made sure the finish on the blade and slabs are correct. Some of the fakes have different anodized colors and hardware.
But most importantly, go with your gut feeling.

Dang, over 40%! To hell with that. Will just pass it up and find something else. I am finding it very difficult to find a CRK I like anymore.

And thx for the article. Helped.

Thanks for the article. I have purchased quite a few CRK’s; Busse’s; other brand knives; guitars, etc off the ‘bay. Never had a problem, and like everything else in life - know your area, and be careful. There’s some good deals to be had for the wary.

The problem is there are so many pictures of real Chris Reeve knives on the internet the seller could easily post pictures of a real Chris Reeve and send you a fake one.

I know you can file a claim with Scamazon if he sends you a fake but first you have to be able to tell if the knife you got is indeed counterfeit.

I stick with guys here with the righr feedback and official dealers only. I'm glad youve been lucky/knowledgable to get the good stuff thus far, but remember that one Coca-Cola brother spent millions on fake art. Ouch!!

Just remembered one problem awhile back with a tablet purchased off ‘zon that didn’t work properly. Difficulty was an electronic problem that wasn’t readily spotted by the seller. They even debated my claim but Pay Pal buyer protection policies resulted in a full refund plus shipping. I feel that, plus my credit card refund protection, makes most online purchases fairly safe.

You also have seller feedback to consider. I sell occasionally on the ‘bay and I am honest and forthright with my item description and entire transaction. My selling and buying feedback standard is 100 percent, and I think most ebayers are this way, or their business, and usually significant income would eventually collapse.

In summation, online transactions have to be weighed in favor of the purchaser - by the selling organization - to even make online shopping work effectively. You are buying something sight unseen - with only photos and description as your guide. So conduct that due diligence and you should come out fine. Time to move on after this lengthy screed. Good luck in your hunting and gathering.
