Greeting bladeforums,

One of my favorite edc knives is my dozier hunter. The d2 blade holds a great edge, but I noticed today it is starting to develop small rust spots. I was hoping it would just develop a patina, but it went straight to the rust spots. The really odd thing is they are not on the main part of the blade, but up near the handle and the pivot. The cutting area of the blade is completely clean. I would post pictures, but I can't get the spots to show.
Does anyone else have this problem? Any advice?

Lighly scrub with a sponge with a scrub pad side to clean up the spots then lighly oil the blade regularly. Tool steels need attendion to stay ahead of rusting

Advice? No. But I would wipe the knife down with this stuff. I've purchased quite a few from Brownell's and often include one with a fixed blade knife when I sell one. I've mailed out a couple to a guy in Alaska on Kodiak Island. One knife was in CPM 3V and it's a great steel but will rust. Tuf-Glide and Tuf-Cloth has a good rep; that's all I know about it.

Developed for Navy Seals, I believe, and available at various places. Check Google.

Sounds completely normal. I used BreakFree CLP on all my blades -- no problem on my Dozier K1 despite being close to the ocean lately.

Thanks for the replies! I guess I should be treating the d2 more like carbon steel instead of stainless. I was hoping to get away with being lazy:)

My BM 710 in D2 gets it in the same spot. Sometimes it pops up by the thumbstud and butterfly too. CLP knocks it right out.
