Spotting on new blued CS sword blade?

Hello bladeforums community!

There are a number of "spots" on the blade of my newly purchased CS two-handed sword. A layman would call them fingerprints, but they aren't, and I hesitate to guess.

I have attempted to simply clean with a dry microfiber cloth, but it did nothing to help. I then tried cleaning with a bit of rem-oil and had no luck.

Ideas on what these spots are / how to remove them? I contacted CS via email a couple of days ago and have not received a reply.

Thanks!

For as much as that costs, I would send it back and the manufacturer can fix it. Cool sword though.

Cold Steel is sort of odd when it comes to email (not sure what the issue is). Calling them is the best way to go, according to just about everyone who's ever had to contact their customer service dept. Are you going to actually cut stuff with the sword or just hang it up for display? If you plan to cut with it, the blade will get scratched up and start to lose its bluing pretty quickly, so I wouldn't sweat it. If it's intended as a display piece, then I'd go with cutchu's advice. Also, welcome aboard!

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately I was hoping to display it, and even with the dark/black coating the "spots" are pretty large / noticeable.

I was just thinking, I didn't ask where you got it. If you bought if from someone other than CS, you might want to get in touch with them first, tell them your situation, and see if they'll work with you to get a replacement. It's worth a shot. If not, you can always go ahead and contact CS directly.

I got it from redsgear.com, but I went ahead and contacted CS first just in case it's a superficial stain that can be removed in a non-damaging / non-abrasive way. Perhaps a long shot, but would beat the crap out of repackaging this beast of a blade and hoping all goes well with the replacement process.
