Spotting Scopes

I have quickly realized two things.

1. It is a real PITA when sighting in a rifle at a public range and shooting five rounds, waiting fifteen minutes for the cease fire command, walk down range, examine target, adjust, repeat.

2. It is very difficult to get an accurate assesment of your point of impact using ten power binos at 100 yards.

What I need is a spotting scope, but I'm new to the spotting scope game and am unsure which scope I should get. The scope must be able to clearly make out .22 caliber holes at 100 yards. It would be nice if it also had enough magnification to do the same at 200 yards. Eye relief is going to be a factor as I wear glasses, and I would like to keep the cost in the $200 range.

Any ideas?

good luck, use the $200.00 for a good pair of shoes. I don't believe your going to find what your looking for in that price range. Maybe $500.00 more like $800.00 which is what i paid for my Kowa to do just what you want.

The Simmons Wilderness Spotting Scope 25-75x 90mm is well priced at about $250 and is a well made spotting scope for range use. It has a 25 foot field of view at 1000 yards and 7.5 to 11mm eye relief. For the ranges you are talking about it would do a great job.

Before you buy one I would definetely look through them first.
A bullet hole at 100 yards is not asking to much, but a lot of lower end spotters have terrible optics. So even though they have what would seem plenty of power, the quality may be such that it is hard or impossible to see a 22 hole at that distance. Even more so when ya go out to 200 yards...

You will be glad ya spent the extra money..
If you really want to stay cheaper, some of the older Bausch & Lomb spotters had very good quality and you can get them fairly reasonable.
