Anyone ever try this? I've been trying to find more information about the actual mechanics, (how to stand, angle of attack for the axe, etc). Best video I can find is this one, very cool log splitting technique as well.
I also found this Swedish website where a bunch of different axes were tested for their suitability for sprättäljning. From what I can tell after running the Swedish through google translate, he feels like you can do this technique with most any axe with practice, and that the historical evidence indicates that many different sizes and edge curves were used in different surviving medieval examples.
I really want to give this a shot. It's a pretty tedious method for an everyday timber, but for a special timber in a visible spot it would be fun to attempt.
