posted a while back about tring to use spray on truck bed liner to give slick handle scales a little grip to them.It works great!!!I've done my BM700 and my BM2550 and love the way it looks and feels. It has just enuff texture to it and seems to hold up very well.I'm sure like any other black finish that if you drop it on concrete or something it will chip but big deal, just shoot a nother coat on.If I can get my cheap @ss digi cam to take a good pic I'll post it.

Check out Big John's work, over in the knives for sale by maker section:

. The knife handles are sprayed with Line-X spray on truck bedliner material.

Doesn't surprise me at all, I've had friends using spray on bedliner for rifle stocks for yeras for better grip. I hav eone laying out right now that I think I might do same thing too, jsut trying to decide if I want to do that since finish still is in good shape(just ugly, nasty chicomm veneer)

looks good to me. how thick is the material once it dries on the handle? does it puff up or something or is it just a real thin coat? i saw samples of a rhino bed liner or something when my wife was getting her windows tinted in her car and thought that may make a good handle but forgot about it after we left. it even came in several colors and was about 1/4 inch thick if i remember right. :p

Dang...I gotta figure-out how to spray some of that stuff on the stainless scales of my Spyderco folders without guming-up the action and pivot area...:).

HELLO ,
How do you apply the spray on liner? Do ou have to have any special tools or such ?

There was an article a while back in Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords where they used a paint-on bedliner on the project Lightning. Comes in a big paint can, and they just brushed it on. I bet if one person here got a can of it they could do the handles for just about anyone here - paint it on and let it dry. :) I think it was like $40/can or thereabouts - not too bad.

Its pretty easy to do,I just cleaned the scale with ligther fluid to get the oil and finger prints off.On the 700 I just taped off the edges of it,removed the pocket clip and sprayed(screws too) it with two coats. On my 2550 I took it apart and and taped of the pivot area on the inside of the scales and put one coat on the inside and three coats on the outside. The more coats the more texture you get.Stuff dries really fast and you can do a coat every 15 minutes.Glockman, just tape off a cool design in the middle of your SS spydercos so it would look like a inlay.;) Also it gives pocket clips a cool look.I pick up my can at Wal-Mart for $7 a can it's called DupliColor Spray on Bed Liner. They also have a gallon can for $40 that you roll on with a roller designed for it.

I might try that out on my BK&Ts. Out of curiousity, once this stuff is sprayed/painted on, is there any way to remove it, other than sanding?

Regards,

Shaun.

I tried this on my Bear Ops Rancor IV. It felt amazing, but peeled off too easily. That was with sanding and degreasing. Does anybody know if other brands of bedliner are more durable than Dupli-Color?
