I have been through the threads here on this forum and see none ask about the Merlin.

I'm ordering two Tuesday for EDC on the cheap and putting the Tarani Karambit and other high end knives away.

Anyone have one? Likes/dislikes? I want the hawkbill blade but in non-serrated edge. The Merlin can be had that way.

If sal would make the Matriarch in non-serrated I could sell a bunch of them, but alas, it hasn't happened yet. Even the Civilian in another run of non-serrated would be on my list of carry options if so made.

Ideas from others.

Sal,
If you are watching this thread,
question:

My distributor cat says vg-10, the website says ats-55.

Which one is it?

Hi Brownie:

I like the Merlin (in serrated edge) but prefer the Harpy and SpyderHawk even more. Many forumites show preference in PE, but general sales don't seem to parallel this view, otherwise they wouldn't be discontinued. The PE Merlin is on the discontinue list to my understanding, while the SE Merlin will remain.

Spyderco is releasing a limited run of Bladeforum Spyderco forum SpyderHawks in Plainedge. If you would like more info on the SpyderHawk, it, like the Matriarch use Endura handles. Unlike the Matriarch, the SpyderHawk can be used for utility. There's pics all over the archives, and Carlos has some BF SpyderHawk pics on the current board, as well.

The VG-10 Merlins won't go out until current stocks of ATS-55 blades have shipped (per a factory sales rep a month ago).

Thanks for the replies, I'll ask the distributor Tuesday which ones they have in stock at the moment. [probably ats-55 which I dislike ]

I'd like one of the spyderhawks in blue andplain edge, wondering if anyone knows if they are still available through the 800 number. I noticed that they were being offered some time ago now.

Thanks again, I'd rather have a spyderhawk myself but plain edge.

I think they still are taking orders, they haven't shipped out quite yet.

All the SpyderHawks are VG-10.

Brownie,

Been using the Merlin SE for kayak rescue knife since they came out, and use a PE in the shop. Great little worker! This year I replaced the Merlin with a SpyderHawk on my PFD. I like the SpyderHawk a lot, but then you know my fondness for this blade shape anyhow. You can still order the BF PE SpyderHawk from SFO, and if you can't find a PE Merlin, I can hook you up. Take care, Bro'!

Hi Mike,
I'd like the spyderhawk in PE and will call tomorrow to order one at Sals.

I may just choose to go with the Merlin [ depending on the steel used and the ditributor has in stock ]. Not enamored by ats-55 in the least.

I suppose you are wondering why it took me all this time to come around to these blade shapes hey? Better late than never.

Hope to see you this fall as planned for the trip.

Brownie,I traded away a full spyderedge Merlin w/plastic clip and was lucky enough to get it back.I won't make that mistake again.I'm a sucker for FRN clipits.I'm going to give in to modern ways and obtain a Spyderhawk w/metal clip as that's the only way they come.tom.:)
