I do not see a category that directly mentions these knives. They are not traditional folders to me and yet are not considered to be automatic or switchblade knives even though they can deploy about as fast. I am reasonably sure that they are not legally switchblades in Nevada as they are available in every sporting goods store in town including Scheels and Cabelas. No such availability for switchblades.

Legal knife categorizing seems to me to be dumb. Just have the law treat the use of a knife to commit a crime be considered the same as using a gun.

this could be challenged in court if deployed for self defence i never carry assited open in my left deploy spot. but i own leaks.
Todays knives deploy as fast, i have both old before the ban, and kit switch blade. pretty useless
orginally i think these were intended for law, mil etc

ya, in my town they called his knife a swith blade. i am not sure if it was a flipper or assit open but they nailed him.

the guy was jumped by connected family he was 1 on 5-6 others - all drunk.

he hit him once, after being knocked down, with a serated edge knife the victum fought and did not relize and the knife worked back and forth in single blow. despite 10 min hospital trip the damage was too much he died in hour.
ya!

he never felt it. nobody new he was stabbed

the single guy got 8 years. then again, this town is like roll back too the 50's - weird place - NWI - while only 45 mins from chicago the demographics are rare. As i mentioned our school was rated 1 in the state 7 in the nation, we are not a rich town, we hard working old school americans - that was 2 years ago my daughers senior year.

high school is like a brand new college - google crown point and use the map too look at the school. my kifd where raised with 1970's values: hard work, college, fairness and in lefty county a righty town in red state.

there is little crime, so, even if your in the right - you got 5 people who are not on your side and see it different. you do time.

check your blade lenght too! know the law!

So where in Blade Forums should spring assist knives as a category be discussed? As noted in my original post, unclearly apparently, none of the listed categories seem to directly mention them.

General knife discussion if you're wanting to talk about them in general or, if you're wanting to discuss a specific brand's knives(Kershaw/ZT for example), it can go on that brand's forum.

Most knife laws were written before "assisted" knives existed, decades ago. States/countries that restrict switchblades typically have use words like "spring" in conjunction with "button", "lever", or "mechanism" that releases the blade. Since "assisted" knives require direct manipulation of the blade, in many states they're considered legal by way of loophole. But at this point, case law (if it exists) becomes more important than (unfortunately typically uneducated) interpretation of an antiquated description. And in that regard, it really comes down to a state-by-state (or country) basis.
