Well I've been mostly lurking recently, been out and about a lot so not a lot of time to post, but I decided to crank out some mods over break I've been wanting to do for a while. I brought my 9 and my 14 over to my buddies shop and had him media blast 'em for me, and then I de-ramped the 9.

enjoy

Did you media blast the handle as well? I was thinking about media blasting my knives as well as opposed to polishing them. Also what kind of media did you use?

Yeah the handles where blasted as well, we used medium grade glass media. The grivory scales get really grippy when you blast them, I like it a lot.

Looks nice, i love the rampless 9

looks like you did some mighty fine work there

btw, i hope you enjoyed your spring break

Looks nice. I like the ramp.

Thanks guys, It was a blast of a project (incomprehensibly horrible pun not intended) I think I'm going to file in my own jimping on the spine just so that one little divot isn't lonely :D

The blasting looks really awesome. I'm not sure about the ramp removal, but I don't have a 9 so I have no idea what I'm really talking about...

Thanks for the info. I've got some media at my job, but I'm unsure what grit since its been sitting I'm a blaster that we hardly use. My guess its fine, but I'm not 100% sure. I definitely am going to blast my knives now after seeing yours.

Did you have any issues with the media pitting the steel?

I didn't have any issues with it, and if you're using a fine media it shouldn't be a problem. I also found that the surface of the knife holds oil better after you blast it (I did my 16 a while ago and no oxidization problems yet).
