Spring cleaning out at the shelter spot

I had the day off so I went out to the spot where I've made my winter shelters the last 3 or 4 years.
I wanted to disperse the ash and charred wood from the pit, turn the soil and break down the reflector.
I had a near full ring of cut invasive honeysuckle around the spot to keep the coyotes from sneaking up on me at night. I burned about half the ring in the pit during the last big snow we had so what's left stays for next winter. I'll restore the full ring over the summer so it's ready to go come fall.

Arrival.

Took a while to clear this with my little GI shovel.

Had a visitor. They had a rough winter.

Then I dispersed the fallen down reflector and made a rake out of some of that invasive stuff to cover the pit with leaves.

Some pics from the last few years showing changes. First ones from first shelter type. Last ones from this last winter. I even planted grass here one spring. It was quickly taken over but grew in pretty thick before it was.

This was the year I cleared all the dead leaves and weeds and tried growing grass.
Stripped and seeded.

great thread and pics. love the time progression and shots of the different seasons. thank you for sharing.

Very nice. I really enjoyed the different season pics as well. Thanks.

Good for you cutting out those honeysuckle bushes. I remember you had posted before about using them for a cut brush hedge around your site. Burning them as the winter wound down means that if you use that spot year to year you will gain ground on letting native plants reestablish there. Clever use.

Cool pics man!:D
Need some "thick foil" doubled over when it snows, as a base for that fire, you would be surprised @ the advantages.
Nice thread.

Great pics. The SOB and the Randal were looking good.

The Brick finish is growing on me. I sold my CABS, and miss a small Infi blade.

Great pics. I like seeing the evolution of the site and how well you cleaned it up. Well done all around.
