Hey all,

Been a while since I had any time to myself, but this morning I took a few hours in between! I had been using my 57 whittler lately and I finally took the time to re-profile.

My friends that remember and know me, will see this as sacrilege, using my trend diamond stone...and not one of my true hard arkansas stones. But hey, these little whittler blades are HARD. Much harder than my larger bladed GEC's. Anyhow, took me about three hours this morning and I forgot the therapeutic qualities of a good freehand sharpening session.

These little blades are SHARP

Heres a quick cell pic :)

From here on out I will keep her honed with the Arkansas stones and it will just get better and better.

Hope everyone is well and next up is renewing my platinum :)

Please share any re-profiled whittlers! I did this purely for function.

Thanks,

Kevin

What did you reprofile dps to? That sheen looks sweet, especially on that coping blade. Sharpening my knives is always a nice use of downtime, less of a chore and more of a relaxing aspect

Hey Tim,

No idea on DPS :) I can say its pretty low but I have taken them thinner and been fine. See how these hold up and slowly go thinner and thinner.

The sheen is the same on all just couldn't get the same lighting on all three to show it.

Thanks!

Anytime Kevin, looks like the absolutely perfect knife to go to town with a piece of wood on~

Looks like it will push cut news print, Kevin! Great job on the profile:thumbup::thumbup:

Sorry no re-profiles to add...I need to have a go soon.

that is a really great reprofile on that #57, I could never imagine achieving something like that freehand,
I convexed my #38, turned out very nice, I put a 30° microbevel on the main blade, just so it would be a little stronger. All three blades are dangerously sharp, I've cut myself on them quite a bit, the photos make it look as if I've ground the points off teh blade, but that is just the light:

here is the knife in its original condition, before it got some life experience:

I wish the edges of my 57 were even close to that!! I only show a pic to contrast. I'm still learning the art of sharpening.

Thanks for showing the re-profile Kevin. It look great!

Hey buddy,
so glad to see you around here :) your edges and reprofiling work are amazing but I'm not surprised the least ;)
Glad to see you're still carrying a slipjoint from time to time

I'm not great at re-profiling. I did successfully put a nice convex edge on my #57 though. I'm pretty happy with it.

Thanks for showing that! To my eye it looks MUCH better after some experience  The clip blade looks like its really getting thinned nicely :)

Oh, and I bet you will get just as good if not better. It took me a lot of frustration to be comfortable.

Thats a beautiful 57! Wow, I forgot how different it really is until I saw your pic. Shows how when you watch it happen you don't notice :)

Hey there ole' friend :p Thanks for the compliments its much appreciated. Yeah, every now and then I carry one :D

Friction folder is my daily dose of traditional ;) Aside from the hand me downs as a kid, a whittler, to actually whittle with, was my first actual passion into traditionals. Figures its what keeps me really coming around.
