Spring loaded LAWKS

Why didn't the designers spring load the LAWKS to automatically deploy when the blade is opened? Wouldn't it be pretty simple to do? Seems like you could do it with one of those omega shaped springs that are used in the axis lock. Has anyone tried this?

The Lawks safety I believe was invented by a couple of guys named
Lake and Walker and I think it is patented. Michael Walker also owns the "Liner Lock" name, design. So to answer the question it is a good idea, but the only ones who can work on the design are the inventors. Just guessing here. I may be totally off and it is all about cost and ease of manufacture. I have been dipping pretty deep into the "Holiday Cheer" :D ;)

yepp... I thought about that, too... shouldn't bee too difficult to work a spring into the LAWKS. I can't see any problems with auto-safety. Closing should be easy (index finger for LAWKS, Thumb for liner)

yes,but what would you use to actually move the blade? i personally use my index finger to close the blade, with the thumb on the liner.if you have to pull back on the LAWKS, and push down on the liner, where does that leave you? i cant find any other way to do it,my middle finger cant reach up to push the blade closed (Im only human) and i certainly am not comfortable closing the blade with my index while my middle finger is busy with the LAWKS.

if there was a way to pull the LAWKS back and not have to actually hold it,it would be a lot easier, but then you would have to rig a way for it to engage when you open the knife, and when you want to close it,it couldnt snap back.
sure,it COULD be done, but think about the difficulty(and price) of manufacturing something like that.

Good idea, but it would violate KISS principles. I'm fine with flicking it as I aquire my grip.

Mo:

You can flick the blade half closed. I have done this with folders before...

Auto LAWKS would be great. I played with LAWKS for the first time at the beginning of December... WOW! What a great idea!

Easy - once you moved the liner over it would block the lawks and you then use your index finger to close as usual. If I could find a source for the omega springs, I'd really like to try modifying my CRKT KFF and see how it works.

This topic gets brought up every so often. It's a great idea and it wouldn't be prohibitively difficult to design, construct, or operate. I have no idea why manufacturers haven't caught on.

It would be pretty hard to hold the spring-loaded LAWKS back while disengaging the liner lock -- all with one hand. Also, LAWKS is engaged "naturally" when you put your thumb in place on the opened knife.

I would think that if a spring-loaded LAWKS were THAT simple, that it would have been a part of the original design...
