We have been having record setting cold and cold spells this winter. I know...so has everyone else! Yesterday we were blessed with a 70 degree, bright sunshine, day. Made me want to do all sorts of things. What I did do is drag out the Pruners. These knives are used on a regular basis by my wife, in particular, and by me, sometimes:D

And as the sun was going down two really fine NY Strips, from my farm, and some Duck Ramake, on the GRILL!!! What a perfect ending to a remarkable day.

If you have them lets see them please!

4" Holley - Great old knife with lots of life left.

4 1/2" Unknown - Wish I could make out the tang stamp but cannot. I solid old knife that still sees a lot of use.

3 1/2" Ulster - Still an incredible knife. This one is my wife's favorite. Mine too.

5 1/4" Unknown - Cannot tell you much about this one other than my wife loves it and it was a gift from a knife guy! The best kind of knife, THANKS JACK!

4" Case/Bose - Not a current picture. This knife has been used and used hard. I have owned all of the collaboration knives and I do believe this has been the best.

That's quite an accomplishment seeing the fine knives that resulted from the Case/Tony Bose collaboration. Wasn't that the first model in the series?

The Pruner was released in 2002 making it the 4th one. Slimline Trapper first, then Millennium Trapper, Yukon, and then Gardener's

Thanks for the clarification. That's a great looking knife. Very eye catching, I remember when it came out.

Talk about gardening in style!

Some nice and interesting knives there rinos. Thanks for sharing. Tell me a bit about the red handled one please.

Wow - some great knives there, Paul. Love the ebony on those old pruners.

The only pruner I have is this old KaBar. It represents an $8 lesson I learned in buying old knives online: always ask about important aspects like WALK AND TALK when buying antiques...this one unfortunately flopped around like there was never a backspring in the first place, and no amount of cleaning or lubing would bring any spring into its step (one of the many reasons I prefer a knife with half stops is that it often avoids wearing the spring/cam junction in this way.)

It also had a section of the scale cracked and was dull like a backwards butter knife. However I am never one to toss a knife, especially an oldie, so I peened the bolster and pivot pin tighter to make it a functional friction folder, cleaned and glued the cracked scales, and gave it a toothy edge on a round diamond hone. It now lives in my toolbox to fight another day and to remind me of the pitfalls of antiquing for sharps.

I was in the garden today listening to Bob Acri while I worked. Thanks Bob ( Sleep Away )

Nice looking collection of work knives. Never seen that particular Case Bose before today.

Hawkbills and pruners don't get no respect, yet they are some of the hardest workin' knives in . . . . . .well, you get the picture!
Thanks for sharing the celebration of some nice weather, which I hope lingers for you, Brad. And thanks for bring these beautiful knives to the fore!
Here's a nice little pocket-sized Case, at just over 3 1/2 inches, which has survived some extensive pitting to look and function just great!

Now to go find something to throw on the barbie tonight!!
Maybe a couple of Zucchinis . . .:D

Here's a nice old Joseph Rodgers, with scratted handles. Just over 4 3/4" long, it's built for a lot of work. This knife was found in tobacco country, just north of Lake Ontario. It has flush, square joints.

my hawkbills are neither old nor unusual;
i have an opinel #8 in stainless and a boker plus in stainless. dont seem to carry them much in winter but... soon.

If you can keep the blade open without risking fingers, use it!

Both are quite nice. One of my sisters lives in Austin and I understand a taste of Winter was handed out down there this year as well!

You are killing me with this one Charlie. As usual;) The stories it could tell and the new stories I would like to give it to tell. I believe this one could be called a "Real Dandy".

I'm glad someone loves the ugly brute! :D Glad it works too Brad, certainly one of my more unusual finds. There's a bit of info in the thread here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1081837-Odd-Two-blade-Friction-Folder

Hard to imagine a bigger step up! :D Very nice indeed

I only have a couple of folding pruners, they get very little use I'm afraid :)

Quite like this Tyzack for in the garden too. Charlie has its twin, a Wostenholm.

Beautiful Charlie

The scales on that Joseph Rodgers are beautiful. Some of the prettiest scales I've seen, let alone on a knife that was built for such work. Awesome example.

Wonderful, shapely, useable knifes for a specific purpose in the best time of the year.
Dinner looked TASTY.

Haven't had the chance to prune anything with this Sword yet but I think it will do fine when the time comes.

Mind If I ask a question?

What is the proper use of a pruner? What is pruning? I have always adored pruners, but never knew what their intended purpose was.
