Spring on G10 Dragonfly broken, can I replace it with the FRN spring?

So my loved G10 Dragonfly spring broke and because I dyed the scales its not longer warranty-able. I was thinking of buying an FRN dragonfly and replacing the spring myself since its cheaper and I can get different blade materials. Does anyone with both have any experience with this?
 
I've read that it is hit and miss when you swap the locks. Sometimes you have to swap the blade with it. YRMV
