Thought this was pretty cool so just had to try it, The other day I stopped at
Ken Erickson"s and he shows me a knife with a notch in the spring (vintage?)
that some forum member had sent him. Long story short this was so the blade in this particular knife didn't hit. The next day I'm doing one that is a prototype for a forum member and wanted the blade to drop lower in the frame. the notch in the spring is right where the center pin goes thru. Being the notch is cut longways I see no strength compromise at all. Some of the stuff I see done years ago and cause they didnt have other ways to do things is really something. Hopefully the blade will hit dead center banged together and lay right in the notch (it does)
Ken.

First time I've seen that, Ken. Interesting stuff for sure.

Now that's a neat idea. Seems like it would also help with keeping the blade from rubbing against the liners if done well. I like the idea. Now if only Laguioles had something like this...

I've seen this on several old knives (I've also seen it used on the center wedge of splitspring whittlers, to drop the point of the main blade down just that much further) -- though a more common trick on multiblades was to bevel the shoulder of the spring hump to one side or the other - usually the side where the main blade falls, but often on both sides of the spring hump, depending on blade configuration.
