Spring replacement

I generally do not post, being relatively new, I just read & learn. I have +/- 600 knives. Collected over many years. My question, how can I replace a spring without spending a fortune. Is there a good old boy trick ? Is there a jig I can buy without breaking the bank ? Are there directions I can access. I would like to get into repairing my own knives. Can anyone help a poor Old man ? Thanks Frankb

Any particular type of spring? You've got your back springs, your rocker springs, your Omega springs, your scissor springs, your open assist springs, your frame lock and liner lock leaf springs, your button return springs, your carabiner gate springs, etc.

There's a maintenance and tinkering board that may be better to post this in. Replacing the steel lock bars on old lock backs means taking the knife apart which means removing those pins. Or at the very least the center pin the lock bar rocks on. You'd have to have the bar fabricated to match the old. The Military, Spyderco Military? Contact the warranty department for that one.

How about just a Camillus 1969, Vietnam Era, military issue ? I have replacement pins & spare knives. My dilemma is replacing the spring ie taking the tension off so I can repin it. Can I make my own jig, or must I buy one & if so where.
THANKS..........FRANK

Are you talking about the TL-29 Linesman knife? One blade being a screwdriver?--KV

You can simply compress the spring in a vise. place the backspring in the handle, compress with the vise, insert pin.
If it is fitted properly, peen the pin.

Question, will this hurt the blades ? I'll let you know how I do. First illcremove the spring from another knife, same butnot as good, which already has a broken spring. 2nd question, how do you compress the spring to replace a broken can opener ? I bought many of the defective military knives on eBay, for good prices. Spring & blade replacement will make bad knives good.
THANKS..........FRANK

Done deal. I removed the spring from a knife that already had a broken spring. 1988 Camollus Military Utility knife and put it into a Vietnam era 1968 Camillus. Thanks to all for their advice & comments. Now, does anyone know where I can purchase knife repare parts ?

THANKS..........FRANK
