Spring, slowly but surely...

Hi there! I’ve been out to “salute” the Spring last Saturday :). Went on my own since family was busy with playdates and sport activities… not so bad anyway :)! Snow is melting and mountain torrents and streams are in full swing, making it up for an interesting photo set . Spring flowers are stubbornly blossoming, finding their ways even through some snow and ice patches which are resisting at higher altitudes. In the morning I diverted a bit from the track and moved along a torrent bed to take some shootings. In the afternoon, from the village (1280 mt.) I followed the track up to a mountain hut (1651 mt. – not yet opened for the season) sky was clear, breeze was crisp and the fields, covered with flowers, opened on a beautiful mountains view. Took it easy on my way back, stopping by a few empty cattle sheds, used for the transhumance, to explore a bit and get some more shots. In close proximity to one of those, making use of few small branches from some downed trunks, I set up a small camp fire for an Italian style coffee :D. PM2 still in my pocket :)! Just to share. Take care.

Wonderful thread and beautiful photos! The countryside there is stunning! Are you shooting in aperture priority on the shots with the water, a slow shutter in low light or using a filter? Either way, stunning photography!

Showed the wife your pics!! She thought as I did that they are KOOL!! Thanks for that!!! John

Beautiful pics, but I kept finding myself looking at that old Jeep and wondering what the history on it is.

Hi!

@ tech25; Pokerchip; WILLIAM M.; jmh33: Thanks for your kind comments! Glad you like the post.

@ mistwalker: Thanks for appreciation. I consider you are a pro in photography! Actually I don't own any fancy camera and stuff, I shot these with my point-and-shoot Canon (a G9X) and a little tripod. I selected the "portrait" mode, since I was aiming at the flowers and vegetation. I think these 2 tens/sec more of opening was the cause for the "effect" on running waters. Cool, but not properly my merit :D ...

@ Halfneck: Thanks! Yes, that old jeep wreck also interested me. I ID her as an old Fiat Campagnola, produced from 1950 to 1970 ca. So surely nothing connected to WWII. I can only guess it was just an old car, used by shepherds which stopped working and was not worth repairing. Actually, though they can be picturesque, these wrecks are not very nice to be found abandoned on mountains tracks...

Herlock, Beautiful countryside, I can almost smell the coffee, reminds me of the Incusore we worked with, they had the same brew kit. In 1984 I got to drive with another man, a Fiat Jeep from Camp Darby (near Livono) to Forti (I think that is the name) and remember driving thru the mountains, old castles sitting on the tops of hills, and stopping for excellent coffee at a inn at the top of the mountain. I had not thought of that trip for a long time, but your photos brought it back, thanks. John

I'm only a professional in the sense that I have been playing with cameras for forty years, and I get paid for a lot of my photography. I didn't go to school for it. I knew the shutter had been slowed down to get that effect, just wasn't sure how. Don't knock the point and shoots. The first photography awards I ever won and the first photos I ever sold to a publisher were all done on a point and shoot. I'd say as much your merit as anyone else's. The whole thing with cameras is knowing how to make it take the photos you want to capture. It couldn't have done it without you :)

Hi!

@ John A. Larsen: Thanks! It happens to me also that, sometimes, an image, a sound, a smell calls back some distant memory buried somewhere. Most of them pleasant, fortunately :)! Incursori are "special" guys :) (you probably refer to 9th Regiment Col Moschin paratroopers). I met a few of them during the 90ies, when I was myself training in Aosta at the Mountain Warfare Training Centre. They were taking weeks long specialty training for mountain warfare and rope climbing. Compared to us (Alpini), quiet, reserved and hardworking (on duty :D), they were sort of “bragging dudes” :D but, eventually, they proved themselves and we came to mutual respect and appreciation.

@ mistwalker: Thanks for your kind words! I like P&S cameras! Specially today, I think they pack really high performances into very compact dimensions, great for hiking ! I have no ambitions in photography, it’s just an hobby, but it’s nice when someone appreciate my shootings :).
