I know most people on here are used to making snares but today I wondered if I could knock up a quick one using natural cordage.
What I like about this particular snare is that you don't even need a knife, I used mine because it was there but could easily have snapped all the branches instead !

Here is the snare all set, I didn't bother with noose placement as I had no intention of trying to catch anything, I just wanted to test the cordage:

I fine tuned the trigger, as it was here a good sneeze would have set it off !!!

I have no doubts that 1/8" Cedar root would be strong enough to take a rabbit sized animal. If I was setting it for real I'd de-bark the cedar root that forms the noose to decrease the friction as it pulls tight.

I'll try and upload a little video later of it being triggered, albeit only by a rock I threw at it !

A snare that catches wild knives? Damn, I need to start making those, save me a whole lotta money. Whadja use for bait? Fatwood? I gots to know, I need these snares to work for me, as I might be able to open my own knife shop with the catches!!!!!!

Good stuffe, Pit, as usual. I like the cedar cordage. What do you think the tensile strength might be? I SWAG is cool. SWAG-Scientific Wild Ass Guess. Most animals I've snared, tend to fight pretty hard, so I was just wondering.

It's damn strong stuff, 1/8"-1/4" would likely take my weight ( 200lbs ) if it weren't for the knot area giving out. Once ya tie the stuff that area becomes a weak point. I'm still thinking that the snare I made today would hold a rabbit easily. I might go back tomorrow and attatch Snicker to it and see if it can hold her back.

I threw a rock to set the snare off which the dogs ran after, so not sure what actually tripped it, LOL !:D

Looked like you threw a Ribeye over there the way your dogs were on it. I kept waiting for the rock to be thrown, instead, Wonder Dogs flashed on the screen. Hell, I never even saw the trap spring, just the dogs. Thats funny.

ETA, Didjoo get that firesteel yet?

No worries, I sent another one to New York, it ain't made it yet either. I'm beginning to get worried about our ability to mail stuff. If they would invent a way to email tangible objects, I would like that. Imagine, buy a knife online, and it gets spit out of a printer type thing, rarin' to go. Damn, that sounds good.
